BH's are defined as " non-painful contractions " , but there is no doubt that they can make you stop and hold your breath, and some people could consider them painful. I would have considered them, if not painful, then definitely uncomfortable. However, my suggestion to anyone who is in any way concerned, please, please go and see your midwife. They will not mind being asked questions - " silly " or not, and will be able to put her mind at ease - and your friend we'll feel so much better for having asked. If she is at all concerned, she really should ask her midwife, who will be able to carry out some simple checks. She won't be thought of as silly, and she will be able put her mind at ease (or refer her if she is showing signs of prem labour). Guest guest
Caro, Debbie and others, I'll give my friend a ring today - she's a bit jumpy at present I think (a) because she had a gestational diabetes scare last week (but blood test OK so now a bit happier) ( because she has a very big transverse baby and she might have been rushed into an early c-section and © because she had a very nasty miscarriage at Christmas so pains are bad news in her book. I suggested she call her GP/midwife (she seems to have a wonderful GP who's really into the whole obstetric/pregnancy care thing) and she said she probably would if the pains lasted another day. Actually, that reminds me of another thing - her miscarriage was very nasty, very painful and required a blood transfusion. Does this indicate a strong probability of PPH? She's having the baby in hospital on those grounds anyway, and is happy to do so, but I'd be interested to know if there is any correlation. Thanks a lot for all your help - I sent my Vicki Iovine book to another friend 18 months ago! Anneliese and Toddler Tim (Present now? MY card!) Was just thinking - the only time I had painful BH contractions was the day after I had spent the day sightseeing with my MIL and was also a bit dehydrated. I drank a lot and lay around the whole day and was fine the next day. > Anneliese and Toddler Tim (Present now? MY card!) LOL! A friend of mine had her 2 YO's birthday party and then the new baby 2 weeks after and a lot of people also got a small gift for the 2 YO. She now thinks that a) all presents are for her, and she should be getting presents everyday. Phyllis
