Well I am not sure I am the best person to ask (!) but I would say that it is perfectly possible to fit training in with other commitments. When I started training I was regional treasurer and something for the branch (can't remember precisely what now but I have never done nothing for the branch so it must have been something iyswim!), during my training I became the regional coordinator and then a trustee as well. I have always worked (practice nurse) as well although my hours have crept steadily upwards - when I started I was doing 13 hours a week (now 23). I think my other commitments slowed my training a little - I could see that some others went a bit faster than me, but equally there were many who were slower than me. That is the beauty of the training - it is paced (within reason) to suit you. The good news is that we have dept of health funding to increase the number of bfcs - we will use this money to pay the first years training fees of 100 new trainees from now - no firm applications received yet, although lots of interest. If anyone wants to know more about the training I can email information. We *need* more bfcs - so I am baised!!!
