Guest guest
Ok. I just got a letter from the insurance company. They authorize the biopsy and 1 day in the hospital. Is this common? I am calling them tomorrow to find out the options. Check out time from the hospital is 11:00 am. I will not be operated on until Friday afternoon. I guess I would feel more comfortable with 2 days minimum, the doctor mentioned 3 days. I am hoping that the insurance gives me 2 days and if there are complications, longer. I am going to talk with the surgeon's office before I call, but want it cleared up before I go in on Friday. I have pre-admission on Thursday. It just seems funny that I would not be observed for even 24 hours the way the hospital and insurance are set up. Your comments please. What have your experiences been? Guest guest
Stefani, That seems fairly absurd on the face of it. I don't remember anyone who went home within 24 hours of a VATS. Even where it goes textbook smoothly, 1 day in the hospital is just not enough. I was in the hospital 2 weeks after my biopsy. Now I'll grant you my situation became fairly complicated but 1 day seems awfully optimistic on the part of the insurance company. Guest guest
Most authorizations today are one day at a time. Mine was that way. Mine for my colon resection was that way, even though no one has ever gotten out from a colon resection in one day. The hospital just gets more days. > > Ok. Guest guest
I had a VATS biopsy on Dec 26, 2007 - yep, the day after Christmas!!! I went home the next day, on the 27th...and of course, being up here in New Hampshire, it was in the middle of a snowstorm!!! I had no complications and everything was fine once I got home as well. Guest guest
Bruce - Thanks for the anxiety reducing response!! I did double checked (you are always reminding us to be our own advocates) with the insurance and yes, they approve one day for the go ahead and then any additional time is " applied for " by the hospital usually, but can also be requested by the physician(s).
