for a little over 3 weeks now, i've had severe pain in a couple of my teeth. i

let it go for about a week or so, and then i finally called the dentist. i told

them on the phone that i was pregnant. i told them on the phone that i was in

pain and possible needed tooth removal. my appt was at 9:30 this morning. i got

there late because i couldn't find the place, but they saw me anyway. of course

i had to wait a whole nother hour. so they take me back at 11 and check out my

teeth by eye. they see one tooth that has decay, which i knew, but another tooth

which has been causing me much more pain is apparantly fine? then they tell me

they can't do any x-rays because i'm pg. then they tell me they can't do any

work, because i'm pg. then they tell me they can't give me any antibiotics or

pain meds because i'm pg. then they tell me they could do all this stuff if they

had clearance from my ob. umm, ok. why the hell didn't they tell me that when i

made the damn appt???

so they give me a letter to give to the ob to approve them doing anything. i

decide to just go straight to the ob right then and there. 20 minutes away from

the dentist. they give me the clearance and then i realize that my insurance

cards are still at the dentist, so i go straight back with the clearance letter

and hope they will see me again. i get there and the dentist looks at the ob's

letter and says he can't do the double shield they requested because he only has

one shield. wtf??? he only has one xray machine, so he only has one shield. what

the hell is that??? so he calls my insurance company and gets an emergency

referral for an oral surgeon to do the xrays and the work, if need be, otherwise

i'll come back to him to get the work done. then he sends me off with the

referral letter and an rx for penicillin (the 3rd antibiotic i am now currently

on) and an rx for T3. by now it is 12:30. i go out to the car and call the

surgeon, but they are only there on tues, wed, and fri. guess i'll call

tomorrow.

at this point i was tired as hell and my teeth were killing me, so i head back

to my town, get my rxs filled and go home. it was 1:30 by then. what a waste of

a day :-|

Make sure the surgeon knows how long you've been waiting. And if it comes

up again, tell them you'll sign a waiver.

Oh yeah -- try LLL for suggestions for a good dentist or surgeon who knows

about pregnancy. www.lalecheleague.org I believe.

no you don't have to be planning to breastfeed to ask them for help.

Just say you need a dentist and yours won't do any work because you're

pregnant.

dentist just gave you a big runaround, like you needed that.

I am so sorry. I understand your pain. I had the same problems when I

was pregnant with Zach, it is so painful, and there you are pregnant,

and no one wants to touch you with out fifty-million okays from

someone who is out or on vacation, and then there is the whole 2 hour

lunch break thing... can they not lunch at different times. " Sigh " I

hope the T3 gives you somes relief, and the dentist can do something

to help you ASAP.
