Guest guest
Dear Bin Man I wonder if I could presume upon your good nature and ask 1) do you go into the rubbish bin account and separate the spam/junk or is there some mechanism that does it for you before forwarding... and more importantly 2) How do I tweek my yahoo settings so that my yahoo profile doesn't give my email in full (or at all) on the profile so that junkers can't pick it up from the member lists? Maybe I have to set up a new yahoo identity, in which case I would like to do it without showing my email address or all of it. I have looked but not too obvious to someone with only one grey cell and that one is tired out from 4 yearold partying... thanks a million Caro
Guest guest
If I may presume... I don't find spam a problem from yahoo group memberships: I hardly get any these days and my address isn't munged at all on my yahoo groups. Spam *is* however, a major problem if you're going to venture into usenet. Never, never put your email address on a usenet posting! For usenet purposes, my email address is vicki@..., which works fine. Anyone attempting to mail to that address will simply have their mail rejected. If I'm on a newsgroup I don't visit regularly, I include a .sig instructing people to remove the spam before mailing. If I'm on one of my climbing groups, I don't bother as the regulars all know each other and if anyone really wants to get me for legitimate purposes I know it's not beyond the wit of man to figure it out. You can munge (ie muck it up so it becomes unusable) your address in Outlook Express by going into Tools - Accounts. Click on News and then change the email address to whatever unusable configuration you want. I've seen many a waggish address like Caro.Heyworth@... or whatever and then include a .sig reading " Remove PANTS before mailing " ho! ho! I suppose you could follow a similar course for email, but it would affect all your email not just your yahoo postings, and I would think that would become a major bore for people you were just mailing with on a business/correspondence basis.
