Hello Bruce,

We are all so lucky to have you in this group. I don't post very much but I do read every day and your contributions of so many facets of PF

and your time given to research is a blessing to us all. I have learned more from this group & our very knowledgeable and patient moderator, Beth,

than I have in the past four years from doctors.

I am wondering how you found that chair for $500. I have started searching Craig's List and E Bay looking for a Portable oxygen concentrator. Preferably a Sequel Eclipse since it seems to be one of the few I have that have a continuous flow setting. I travel via Delta Airlines to my appointments at Duke every 3 months and also travel via airlines to visit our daughter and 2 little granddaughters. I have been renting a POC from Apria and after the charges to Medicare they were still charging me $20 day and there is a 4 day minimum rental. Yesterday I called to arrange for travel in Sept. for our granddaughter's 3rd birthday and was told the price has increased to $30/day. By the time I pick it up the day before the flight and visit for 8 days I am up to almost $300 just for this trip.

So if you or anyone in our wonderful group can suggest places for me to research for a used unit, I would appreciate all the help I can get.

Power ChairI own one that I purchased as I wouldn't qualify for medicare to pay forone yet. I also have a lift in my van so I can carry it anywhere. I seea lot of future use for it, although to this point I use it very little.I did use it though to explore the riverfront in Chattanooga, so i couldjust go and not worry about getting back. I can see me using it even nowat a place like Disney World or the zoo. In the future I see it as veryvaluable in maintaining mobility. Now, as to indoor use, again, I'm not to that point. But it would bepossible in my house and I do see the time it would just give me somefreedom to get around and do things I otherwise couldn't.Also, if you live in a neighborhood with things nearby lets you justhead out the door and down the street. I see people all the time in ourarea headed to the stores on the corner in power chairs. When the time comes I'll get one through medicare. However, I got a$5000 chair used for $500 so feel great about having it. You can alwaysfind good deals on used ones. The greater expense is a way to transportit.>> Has anyone gotten a power chair and what do you think about that?>

Bruce,

I have looked several times at the dealers sites and you are right they are high. If you are going to spend that much you may as well buy new and get a guarantee. I did find one for $1500 on Atlanta craigslist today - I need to go back and look again. It was not a brand I have used. I try to keep renting different ones to see how they perform. I will keep searching and see what I find - I am thinking of checking with Medicare to see if they help with the purchase, but don't know if they will since they are paying for the big concentrator I have at home. I do have a prescription from the doctor saying I need the POC to walk in the airport and during the flight -

Dorothy,

I found a site on line that sells the Sequal Eclipse II for $2795. with free shipping,18 Mos at 0% interest and a free battery bag. you can talk to them at or go to Oxygenconcentrators.com. I know nothing about the company or any thing else but when I was searching I happened to come across them and thought it sounded pretty good. Good Luck!

My O2 company gives me on free when I need it so I decided not to buy...... I'll be using one in Dec. for a two week vacation.

Bob,

Sounds like you have a wonderful 02 company. Is it local or a national company?

Thanks for your info on the oxygen concentrators web site.

The regional company here in Durham that I just switched to loans POC's at no charge to their existing customers. They have the Sequal Eclipse and I've already reserved one for the trip to Chattanooga in October.

You might want to call around to the different suppliers in your area to see if you can find one with more options available.

Ironically there was a unit posted on Craigslist yesterday, I found a Model 1000 Sequel Eclipse with an extra batter, cast, etc for $1500. I responded yesterday but have not had a reply from the seller.

I just responded again -hope I hear something back

DorothyMedicare will actually supply you a POC but then it has to be all theysupply. So not only does it mean they won't pay for the homeconcentrator, they won't for cylinders for portable use. Now, onestrategy is to get them to pay for the POC and then pay for the othersyourself (since you can get a home concentrator new for $700 and usedfor half that). For a COPD patient that can often be a good move, butthe problem we have is when we reach the point a POC no longer providesthe flow we need.> > >> > > Has anyone gotten a power chair and what do you think about that?> > >> >>

Bruce,

I did hear back from the woman selling the unit. She is about 2 hours away, but I am going to try and meet her over the weekend.

I looked online and the unit new is around $3600 and the extra battery is $395 - I have already spent $650 on rentals since May - We

are going to Boston for 8 days for our little Mia's 3rd birthday in Sept 16. Then we go back for Layla's 1st birthday on Nov. 23 and Thanksgiving,

We are planning to stay for 2 weeks because we don't go back for Christmas or any of the snow/ice months. We won't see the children again until

spring. Paying $30/day for 8 days in Sept. and 17 days in Nov. seems a waste if I can put it toward my own unit. What do you think? I cannot make the

flights without 02.

hope the batteries are good too

i flew with an inogen twice and one of the batteries only filled 70% and ran out quickly

the inogen batteries were good for the flight, but we didn't figure the time spent in the airport before and after the flight

DorothyIf its in good condition it seems to me like a good deal on somethingvery hard to find. You need to test it both on electricity and thebattery since replacing the battery would be expensive. It just showsthat if we look and are patient sometimes these things are out there. Iwould also think when you get beyond the point it works for you, thenyou'll be able to recover at least some portion of what you pay.Like nearly everyone here, I'm on a fixed income. However, when I havebeen able to find exceptional deals that would provide me extra backupor something for unusual situations and where I have been able to affordit, I have spent money on things to make my life easier or better. Thisgoes from oximeters and liter meters to a treadmill to my power chair.Hope the unit is in good condition.> > > > >> > > > > Has anyone gotten a power chair and what do you think about> that?> > > > >> > > >> > >> >>
