Guest guest
Hi, I am not exactly a whizz at the message boards myself so don't worry about making any mistakes. I remember being so worried when I fist hit that Send button! The important thing is that you came here with your concerns and were brave enough to ask questions. I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so scared but from what I can see (others here know far more than me) the only polyp they could find has been removed. I would say that was good news. The colonoscopy is the most complete examination of the colon that is possible. Polyps take time to grow and then further time to become cancerous, from what I have read this does take years to happen. Even so I wouldn't want to wait 3 years but would ask for another colonoscopy in a years time. My husband has recently had a cancerous growth removed from his colon and in addition to the colonoscopy he also had a CT scan. I should have thought it would be reasonable to ask for one of these. The medics sound fairly sure that they have got everything but it doesn't sound as though they have convinced you. Personally I think you have the right to have the tests that might give you that reassurance. Hopefully, other people here will jump in soon and offer you their views. If you are familiar with using www.google.com you could do a search for " gastric ulcers " + " Nexium " which might give you some more information. Just for the moment try not to be scared and be very glad they got that polyp when they did. The ulcers and the hernia although painful are very treatable. Some easy to understand info is also at this site www.cancerbacup.co.uk. You will also find information in the files section of this site. Please let us know how you are getting along and how you are feeling. I am so sorry you are in such a lot of pain but I would have thought the docs could get this sorted out fairly quickly. Guest guest
Hi. I don't see that you posted your name so please do so in your subsequent posts. I want to quickly respond to your message. It doesn't sound to me like your physician was very diligent to let your pain and other symptoms go untreated. I would consult an oncologist with all of my medical records just to be sure. Having said this, I want to tell you how fortunate you are and that you really will and probably already have beaten this disease. To find a polyp and remove it during a colonoscopy is apparently a stage 1 cancer. Did they give you a stage? You said that the pathology came back as having cancer cells? I assume there was no spread? If so, you are cured. However, I would not want to wait 3 years before another colonoscopy even if I had to pay for it myself. Was the upper GI a scope into the stomach? What is their explanation for all your pain? That troubles me and again, I would consult another doctor to be safe. Sorry for this quick response -- I am trying to peruse almost 300 messages. Finally I convinced him to let me see a Gastroenterologist. Well, they did a colonoscopy where they found a colon polyp, and they went ahead and removed it during the procedure, just yesterday I went in to get the upper GI done, and the Gastroenterologist told me that the biopsy for the polyp came back cancerous so she wants me to get another colonoscopy in 3 years. Doesn't that sound a little long? What if it comes back before that? Should I insist that she do something more, or is this pretty routine? Everyone is acting like it is not big deal. Also I have been in excruciating pain for a year. Shouldn't they prescribe me something to help my pain? Are any of you on something for the pain? Aside from that when I got the upper GI done they told me that I have a hiatal hernia and stomach ulcers and they put me on Nexium. Does anyone know anything about Nexium? Shouldn't she operate if I have a hernia? Do you think I should be more adamant that they do something about my problems. I don't want to walk around with a hernia and all this pain. Is there a way that I can somehow get more support and help. I am scared and my quality of life is awful. Please let me know if you have any advice.
