Guest guest
I, too, dislike the Simpsons. I certainly would not class it as a " childrens programme " - it is aimed at the whole US TV audience. In the UK we regard cartoons as childrens entertainment but traditionally in the US (and Japan) they are made for adults. Cartoons like Mickey Mouse and Tom and Jerry were originally shown in cinemas to a largely adult audience. Adult Comic Books are very popular in the US. In the UK many older adults regard cartoons as childish/childrens entertainment and many parents are caught out because they cannot bare to watch cartoons to judge their suitability - the violence is OK because it isn't real - there is no harm in Tom and Jerry........ Episodes of The Simpsons are widely used at our local Upper School (years 9-11) to stimulate discussion in RE and PHSE and to entertain the kids at the end of term. I don't think the students or teachers would regard the programmes as children's entertainment but aimed at everyone.
