Guest guest
Oh! My Gosh! This is terrible. You must always have a Health Insurance at this point. Thanks Deb. love, Lydia Fly to Deb wrote: How much does a colonoscopy cost in the US? I guess it depends on the place and the state or even the city. My husband's doctor said let's do it at the hospital, because his clinic charges more. Example of one patient's figures: colonoscopy doctor $156 colonoscopy $953 oxygen $27 biopsy procedure $373 Pathology exam $265 microscopic analysis, IV pathology $140 Phlebotomy fee $9 CEA carcinoembryonic $167 LO OS CONT 320MG IOD1 $525 drugs $56 CT Scan Abdomen $1559 CT Scan Pelvis $1343 CT scan doctor $480 ---------- grand total: $6053 You might say the price of a colonoscopy should not include CT scans. Ok, if we subtract the CT scans and the CT scan doctor fee, the colonoscopy will still be $2671. This might scare anyone who needs to have it done. I am sure many people who have no health insurance, who are told by their doctor to have a colonoscopy, will ask the hospital how much it costs, and then decide they can't afford it. Until their symptoms are too bad to ignore. By then they might be stage IV or V. ~Deb from KS mily wrote: Here in Italy people over fifty are allow to have a colonscopy every five years for free. My husband and I don't pay for the tickets anymore because it's recocgnized (sp) that we already have a cancer. Everyone in Italy has a Health Insurance from the govermnent. We pay this insurance throughout our life. All my love and prayers to you and your family. And all my love and prayers to the group as well. Guest guest
you can fill out the same paperwork at the other hospital and doctors and they will write it off as well. Because you fill out the papers and they " WRITE IT OFF " they can also write it off their taxes rather than being on their books as uncollectable or receipts due. Tell everyone you have a medical bill to you can't afford it and fill out paperwork and they will write it ALL off. make sure you ask them for a letter in writing attesting to the fact they wrote it off and keep a file of them. I have done that; Personally, if you have any money remove it from the bank or sources immediately and keep it in CASH... i a safety deposit box or safe. Cash never counts and is untraceable... word to the wise. Good Luck, glad you took my suggestion. Nonnie RE: price of colonoscopy Nonnie, thank you for the suggestion! We asked the hospital to give us the price of the colonoscopy that the insurance would pay. The said no, you have to fill out papers. We filled out two pages with every conceivable question about our finances. Our social security numbers, our bank out number, our credit card numbers and how much we owed, our loan for our treadmill and how much we pay per month. Our federal and state income taxes. You name it, they asked it. It was very thorough. Then we had to make a statement why we need help in paying their bill. I mentioned the $38,000 we owed to the other hospital for the colo/rectal surgery, not to mention the doctor bills, the labs, pathology, xrays, etc. Thank God, the colonoscopy hospital said they are writing it off!!! Now we need to work on the surgery hospital to get that price down to what it is really worth, not what they are overcharging. God help us. Take care, Deb nonnie wrote: one thing to consider lets say the procedure is 1500 IF you don't have insurance. Remember the insurance company pays a tiny fraction of that perhaps 400. You may bring that to their attention. Tell them you have no money etc and would they accept the same rate of pay as they would if they did the same procedure for the insurance company. Guest guest
Hi, Nonnie. Thank you. You know we were in such a rush to mail the paperwork that I didn't make a copy. Oh well, the balances we owe on our credit cards are different now. So will just have to do it all again for the other hospital. hagd ~Deb from KS nonnie wrote: you can fill out the same paperwork at the other hospital and doctors and they will write it off as well.
