Guest guest
Hello all, I am sorry this is so long but I really need some advice.I am new to this board so I'll start by my story or should I say my mom's story. My mom was sick most of the summer with fatigue and lots of bowel trouble. She never would go to the Dr, Until I just made her finally in July. He then done a colonostomy On the 29 th of July and hospitalized her on the 1st of Aug for futher test. They then said she had stage 4 colon cancer but that it had moved to the bladder and vagina walls( since she has had a hysterectomy, she has no female organs there). Well then the race was on........ they done every test known to man and decided to put in a port so they could give her pre surgery chemo and radation for 6 weeks cause they couldnt remove it without trying to shrink it. and they also did a colostomy because her bowels were draining into her urine, so that caused major infection. well, she did well with the port and colostomy and was scheduled to come home and the night before she started running a real high fever and they tested and found she had major gallbladder problems as well so they had to remove it, she had 32 gallstones and a rotten bladder.Anyway she got thru the 6 weeks of chemo and radation ok and battled this infection as well while she was doing it . They tried all kinds of antibotic and nothing worked they found it( the infection) to be a infection called " candita krusei " nothing has taken it away so far and she is still fighting major pain with this and the cancer to.well they are trying to schedule surgery but the dr says heis having 4 different surgeons in on this operation cause it is so extensive ( he says 10 to 12 hrs) and they have to get schedules together. But the infection is still (shes had it since july) there and they are wanting to clear it up some before they go in and " TRY " to get this . They are wanting to take out her Colon, Bladder, Vagina, and rectum IF that will get it all, he says if he gets in there and cant get it all he will just sew her back up. He also says that there is a big possibilty that she won't make it thru this thing. She is 73 and I know this goes against her as well. I guess what I really want to know is has anyone ever experienced any operation this major? and if so what were the outcomes?Or has anyone developed this infection? I am just grasping for straws now.I am her sole caregiver and its killing me to not help her and watch her hurt. I am so sorry this is so long but I needed to get this out and hope to get some advice also...You all are in my prayers.....Lynne
