Hi,

Can you be more specific about how you know it's the moybdenum causing

problems and what symptoms you are getting?

Information that I have on it says that it's toxicity is due to it's

antagonisitic relationship to copper. Intake of 10-15mg daily has been

associated with gout-like symptoms because the molybdenum-activated

enzyme xanthine oxidase makes uric acid, high levels of which can

produce gout.

Excessive Methionine may interfere with the utilization of Molybdenum.

Copper may interfere with the absorption of Molybdenum. Lead blocks

Molybdenum. Zinc may be an enemy of Molybdenum. Fluoride can cause a

deficiency of molybdenum.

It is involved with the detoxification of sulphites by activating the

enzyme sulphite oxidase. I'm just makng a guess here but could your

symptoms be connected to low sulphur?

A high protein/methionine diet may help. But, given that it's very

unsual for it not to help with copper toxicity, it may be a good idea to

have a more thorough look at what exactly is happpening - were you using

zinc as well? Is there a condition where both copper and molybdenum

accumulate?

First, what symptoms are you having? When did they start?

Second, could you show us a hair test? If you have disordered mineral

transport, then you have to be cautious about how you interpret what you are

seeing there.

Third, how much did you take, when did you start taking it and when did you

stop? What else were you taking? Were you trying to treat only copper, or was

there something else?

Dave.

PS. You can read Andy's molybdenum page in HTI, p.258-9.

I remember someone on these boards claiming that they were molybdenum

toxic after it showed up really high on a hair test from supplementing

high doses for a really long time.

I think the same has happened to me. I have quit the molybdenum for 9

months yet I can't get rid of the symptoms it creates. The molybdenum

makes copper toxicity much worse if you're not able to cure the copper

toxicity with it, in my opinion. I feel like the molybdenum has

double my symptoms yet I can't reverse the problem. I feel like there

is a never ending supply of the stuff in my body. It's causing all

sorts of problems.

Does anyone have any ideas to speed this stuff out of my system?

--- I'm not able to answer the question unfortunately but it may be

useful to this discussion to tell you that my Son is actually allergic

to Molybdenum.

That's a weird one I know but we have had the MELISA test done twice

now to check this and he reacts dramatically to the molybdenum.

No one has ever been able to explain this or where this allergy could

have come from.
