Oh Leanne what a tough spot to be in. I thought the transplant co-ordinator helped with that kind of stuff. I'll be prayin for them. He has made it through this far I am sure something will open up for them. Is he at Penn State?Love and Prayers, Peggy IPF 2004, FloridaWorry looks around, Sorry looks back, Faith looks up. Hi all, I just received a question that I don't have an answer to. Here it is: My best friend's husband underwent a lung transplant on 6/11/2009 at the University of Pennsylvania. Their home is 2+ hours from the hospital. Are there any resources in terms of hotel vouchers, residences available for families to use when the time comes for rehabilitation? He was the primary breadwinner, they have four children ages 22-12 and unfortunately have financial constraints to stay in hotels even at $100 per night for long term. I would appreciate any feedback or ideas, thank you. PA folks, are there any resources that you are aware of available for this family? Let me know. Thanks. The site Bruce posted looked like a really good solution. I hope it works. Was he in you support group? I am glad the waiting is behind him. if he is at Penn in Philadelphia, there is a host family program -- they should discuss it with the social worker --

otherwise most people that i am aware of stay in the hotels

there is a lady in the support group who has shopped around re: hotels, but i forget which one she decided on

it will be a couple of years before the facilities for transplant recipients and their families are built -- one at Penn and one at Gift of Life

I don't know what Temple does for their families and recipients

there is one lady from New Orleans who moved here to wait for her transplant, she rented an apartment, had the transplant, and will stay there until after rehab is complete, maybe even longer

University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania State University are 2 different institutions

University of Pennsylvania is also known as Penn or U Penn

the hospital is also known as HUP -- Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania State University is also known as Penn State, it is in the center of the state, i forget the name of the town,

Penn State's Medical center is in Hershey PA, about 2 hours from Penn State

Penn State is known for the Knittany Lions football team, led by Coach Joe Paterno for about 40 years

I know nothing about the pulmonary department at Hershey Medical Center

If you go to Hershey Park (amusement park) -- where chocolate is named for Milton Hershey -- you will pass the medical center
