Hi Dean,

I'm in Australia - so the cortisol and Adrenal Extract supplements haven't been

available and I've just to use just supplements and Herbs. Here is a summary of

what I have collected - I haven't used all of it, and some just didn't suit me

(like Parsley always increased my fatigue). So it's a matter of finding out what

works best for you.

Vitamins and Minerals

Vit B5 is essential for the production of adrenal hormones.

Vitamin B3.

Vitamins C, E, A all concentrate in the Adrenals.

Vit B1 – can help if there is a problem with Lead or if adrenal insufficiency

follows surgery. (I have been better avoiding B1, it seems to deplete my B2

levels and while B2 isn't usually mentioned in association with adrenals it

seems to have a role for me)

Vitamin B6 (600 mg per day) can help normalize elevated Aldosterone production

which helps the kidneys to hold onto Sodium. (Excessive sodium in the urine is

one of the first signs of adrenal depletion. Mild dehydration and sodium

depletion are common.) Sometimes the Sodium depletion results in Potassium

depletion as the body tries to maintain the the Na:K ratio. So as well as

regular seasalt intake, a Potassium supplement may help too.

Lecithin provides Phosphatidylcholine which facilitates the production of

Acetylcholine in the Brain and Adrenals. Choline deficiency is a cause of

adrenal gland degeneration.

Magnesium is the first mineral to deplete when the body is under stress – dose

according to need. 300- 400 mg is a reasonable daily dose for a healthy person,

Those with Adrenal fatigue could benefit from more than this.

Chromium and Vanadium concentrate in the Adrenals and may have a protective

effect on them

Molybdenum concentrates in the Adrenals.

Zinc enhances adrenal function.

Herbs

As well as Licorice other herbs that nourish the Adrenals include, Horny Goat

Weed, Astragalus, Borage, Chaparral, American Ginseng, Korean Ginseng, Siberian

Ginseng, Withania (Ashwaganda), Rhodiola (Golden Root) and Brahmi as well as

other adaptogens. My favorites from this list are Rhodiola and Brahmi.

Herbs that contain precursors for the production of adrenal hormones include

particularly Borage but also Parsley, Sage and Savory

Royal Jelly may exert some of its effects by influencing the Adrenal Cortex.

Sunflower Seeds may stimulate the production of Adrenal Hormones.

Amino Acids

Alanine is essential for its correct function.

Tyrosine is a precursor for the production of Adrenaline, supplementing with it

can reduce stress on the adrenals as well as helping in the production of

Thyroid hormone.

Essential Fatty Acids – DHA and EPA concentrate in the Cell membranes of the

adrenal glands.

Avoid – Tobacco smoke, Caffeine, Tyramine which stimulate the release of

adrenal hormones without increasing their production resulting in depleted

glands.
