I am currently studying the whole sulfation and sulfoxidation thing

and wonder if anyone could tell me if I've got this right and correct

any errors. Perhaps someone could explain in simple terms for me and

others here as it is so important. This is what I think is correct:

1) So, Sulfation and sulfoxidation are two different things.

2) Sulfation is a liver phase 2 process and detoxifies various stuff

including neurotransmitters, steroid hormones, drugs, industrial

chemicals, phenolics, toxins from the gut and estrogen. That's why if

you have poor liver sulfation you have a problem with DHEA. You may

also have problem with salycilates (don't know what they are yet) so

hence the feingold diet helpful.

3)Sulfoxidation is a different thing. It is sulfur metabolism. Sulphur

from stuff we ingest produces poisonous SULFITES. The body changes

them to non-toxic SULFATES. To do this you need the enzyme sufite

oxidase (SO). THIS needs molybdenum!.......

4) Poor sulfoxidation indicated by high plasma cysteine (OR IS THAT

CYSTINE)although no tests are any good for this according to Andy so

only way to know if you have sulfoxidation problems is by doing the

sulfur food exclusion diet test.

5)Poor sulfation usually calls for feingold diet and increase dietry

SULFATES. But don't have to exclude sulphur foods unless you ALSO have

sulfoxidation problems.

6)Molybdenum good for sulfoxidation and also for sulfation? But not

too much aparently if sulfation problems?

Right so far?

some questions:

a)Are they both phase 2 processes?

b)Do you HAVE to go on the feingold diet for poor sulfation?

c) I read somewhere that NOT ENOUGH sulfur in the diet can cause poor

sulfation. Is this true?

d) Could someone please exlain the difference between plasma cystine

and cysteine? I am confused. Also, on my plasma AA test it only

measured " CYST(e)INE " . I realise this isn't a relevant test but what

is it actually measuring when spelt like this? Cystine or cysteine???

Sorry for all the questions. But I am pretty pleased with myself for

finally beginning to understand liver metabolism!!!
