Hi MamaSher,You will have to decide for yourself. Someone said it was painful when the 'bulb' went down but I think that was a different method than what they did here at UW. There was no 'bulb' and the noodle was skinnier than anything I've ever seen go through the nasal gastric system. It is uncomfortable and annoying but not 'painful' in the sense of pain. I wasn't happy about the test at all but survived it and did not feel it was a 'risky' test at all. On the other hand, I was already on omraprazole and it was having an effect so maybe I didn't need the test at all. You could ask Dr. R. if he would be willing to do that with you. It's a pretty easy drug to try for a few months to see if you notice any improvement. I would suggest that you start writing down all your thoughts, ideas, concerns

and mostly questions and take them with you to the appointment. Get the answers, write them down and tell him you'll get back to him with your decision after having a few days to consider his suggestions for you. That way you won't be feeling like you have to make a rushed decision. His nurses are wonderful in scheduling tests and getting you results if your appointment with the doctor is not as quick as the tests are performed. For a large system I've been pretty impressed.Relax - I think you'll be fine.Peggy E.Subject: Re: Re: Sher' thinking /Dr RTo: Breathe-Support Date: Wednesday, June 17, 2009, 11:07 AM

Peggy E... I think it was you who said 'something' about a painful process having to do with GERD... I'm not sure but I'm not anxious to have ANY test w/Raghu that is that painful.

Others have written about this too and now I can't remember who.

Peggy E.... ahhh yes, I'm already prepared to take a list of questions. I'm very detail oriented and usually come away with what I want/need.

I'm already on the omraprazole and I'm not sure if it 'works'. I also take dicyclomine for stomach stress and it works very well.

Thanks.

Hi MamaSher,You know I wouldn't know if the omraprazole works or not for me either since I had absolutely no symptoms that I was aware of. However I have asked my husband if he has smelled the acid smell on my breath since I started taking it (as that was the only clue I had) and he said, "No, he hasn't smelled it" and now 'no new sites' for me is a pretty good sign that MAYBE it is doing what it needs to do to keep the acid out of my lungs. We'll all be curious to hear what you think of the appt. at UW. Let's meet when you are here for that. I'd love that.Peggy E.
