Guest guest
Bruce i read the consumer reports articles from this year the primary reason for a laptop is for when i am too sick to sit at my desk and... a lot of people in this group bring their laptops to the hospital with them otherwise I am happy with my desk top -- especially the keyboard and mouse i was in Best Buy and I have been looking at the Dell website and trying to figure out how to customize it which upgrades are important for me even though i do like my Dell desktop, it is extremely slow thinking about getting a pink computer ($40.-- , $5.-- goes to breast cancer) already decided on a 15 inch 17 inch might be too heavy to carry of course, when sick, the 15 inch might be too heavy to carry too Pink Joyce (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Re: new computerTo: Breathe-Support Date: Thursday, June 25, 2009, 1:36 PM PinkThe basic entry level computers now are more than powerful enough to doanything we need. Understand the cheapest one you can find will be manytimes more powerful than what you have. Right now Best Buy has a Compaqwith a 19 inch flat screen monitor online for $399.98. Most stores todayhave a wide variety below $600. I personally would go with HP or Compaqin the low price range (same company). and I both have HP's thathave performed well.Your other option is a laptop. Now, many on here will say they lovethem. I like mine but would not want to use it all the time. Best Buyhas Toshiba's under $400 as well. I have a Toshiba I like although Ialso like HP and Compaq laptops. The problem for me with a laptop is thescreen size. However, they do now have some with larger screens. Thereare laptops now that are very small and sound like a great idea unlessyou're old and can't see well like me. The less expensive laptopsgenerally have 15 inch screens. I prefer 17 inch in a laptop. Now, with these prices, I would never do a repair on an older computer. You'd be spending at least $200 or so to still have a far less powerfulcomputer than you could buy for $400-600.>> i need a new computer> it's driving me crazy figuring out which one to get and which optionsto choose>> my computer said that i need a new hard drive> everyone says that because it is 6 years old i should get a newcomputer>> any suggestions?>>> Pink Joyce (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania> Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09> www.transplantfund. org>
Guest guest
Joyce, I have a Toshiba laptop with a 15 inch screen. I love mine. Got it at Christmas time 2007 and am still very happy with it. It was around $550 at the time. I take it with me when I travel and my sister brought it to me when I was in the hospital last month. We have a desktop in the house but I rarely use it, the laptop has become very convenient for me.
