This is what I've asked Rob to suggest to his Mum if they do want to come. Thing is, on the rare occasions that they do come to us, MIL does nothing to help, ever. This is partly because she is absolutley paranoid about being seen as an interfering MIL, and also I think because this is how she thinks it should be when you are a guest in someone's home. When we go there (quite frequently) she does everything - we are literally waited on hand and foot. If I offer to help, I am told to go and sit down and " I'll bring you a lovely cup of tea. " She is a fantastic cook, and an all round domestic goddess, though of the Delia rather than the Nigella variety, but, it would seem, not in my kitchen! I suspect she hates the idea of someone invading her kitchen, and assumes I would feel the same way if she were to invade mine. Also, she has this warped idea that I'm some kind of wonderful all-round fantastic wife/mother, able to cope with whatever life throws at me, culinary or otherwise, and therefore don't need any help... That is so far from the truth that the idea is almost laughable, but who am I to disabuse her of this!
