price of colonoscopy

How much does a colonoscopy cost in the US? I guess it depends on the place and

the state or even the city. My husband's doctor said let's do it at the

hospital, because his clinic charges more.

Example of one patient's figures:

colonoscopy doctor $156

colonoscopy $953

oxygen $27

biopsy procedure $373

Pathology exam $265

microscopic analysis, IV pathology $140

Phlebotomy fee $9

CEA carcinoembryonic $167

You might say the price of a colonoscopy should not include CT scans. Ok, if we

subtract the CT scans and the CT scan doctor fee, the colonoscopy will still be

$2671.

This might scare anyone who needs to have it done. I am sure many people who

have no health insurance, who are told by their doctor to have a colonoscopy,

will ask the hospital how much it costs, and then decide they can't afford it.

Until their symptoms are too bad to ignore. By then they might be stage IV or V.
