Hi Tony, I went with AARP plan J for the secondary. It costs me 135. per mo. but I don't have have co-pays other than 40.00for the cataract. My eye surgery was done a month apart so I got two pair of glasses free. So I have one into sunglasses.None when I see any Dr though. I also have AARP RX thats 52.00 monthly and my meds as long as they are Generics they're free..... well mail order, three weeks worth. No charge to me. We read so much we just finally went with these two plans. Good Luck with this hunt. i hated it. they try so hard to confuse seniors -- they succeeded. :(Love and Prayers, Peggy IPF 2004, FloridaWorry looks around, Sorry looks back, Faith looks up. When it comes to Medigap, the plans are set by Medicare so the only

difference between two different insurers on the same plan is the price.

There are several different levels of plans and there are some good

charts available on medicare.gov to help you understand the differences.

If you are 65 then all are available to you. However, if you are under

65 and getting medicare as a result of disability, then the plans

offered vary by state. The tools on medicare.gov will actually bring up

the plans and prices, but the prices can vary based on age.

AARP as Peggy mentioned is very popular. However, for those of us under

65 they only offer Plan A in Texas. The only carrier in Texas offering

Plan D or higher for those under 65 was a small insurer, Sierra. In fact

even on Plan A they were $62 per month cheaper than AARP. I'd suggest

spending some time wading through the plans and prices. Also, if you've

already checked the major plans like AARP and Aetna and United, then I

found a company which represents many of the others very helpful. I

checked their recommendation carefully and found out they were right.

This is medigap360.com.

Your other option is Medicare Advantage plans but I don't know their

availability and desirability in Louisiana. In some places they are very

good. In Texas they are horrible. Most in Texas are not PPO or HMO but

PFFS (Pay fee for service) and I don't have a single doctor who will

accept any of them.

Do a little checking and if you have more questions feel free to ask and

I'll try to help.

If you are eligible for medicare and sign up on your first opportunity

then there is no exclusion for preexisting clauses. If you are

attempting to switch medigap policies or make other changes, then there

is an annual open enrollment period to make changes.
