Guest guest
, Even with something as simple as Tylenol PM anyone with pulmonary disease should check with their doctor. Tylenol PM contains diphenhydramine which is an antihistimine that causes sleepiness. (Diphenhydramine is the acitve ingredient in Benedryl) Some people (myself included) have to be very very cautious of any medication that sedates or induces sleep. They can make your breathing more shallow and cause you to desat. Just check with your doctor before taking anything for sleep. Guest guest
With our combinations of conditions I wouldn't select anything, even Tylenol PM, except as prescribed by a doctor. However, they do have many potential ways to start. One approach many use is to start with various forms of long used antihistamines. Another approach is some of the old and traditional tricyclides such as Elavil or Doxepin. Then there are the traditional anti-anxiety meds such as Xanax and Valium, which most doctors do not use for sleep anymore due to their cumulative nature. There are quite a long list of meds just for sleep, all with different effects. Many of these are hypnotics. Ambien (not CR, just regular) is a short life med, just designed to help you fall asleep. Sonata was the fad med and now isn't used as much with Lunesta currently very popular. Then some are prescribed quite regularly off label, such as Zyprexa. They should be more last resort types as Zyprexa has some quite common and severe side effects. As well, even for those who don't experience the severe ones, you'll crave carbs and gain weight even faster than on prednisone. > > > >> > > > >>From: lisac_wa <hope2thend@ ...> > > > >>Subject: Prednisone - side effects > > > >>To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com > > > >>Date: Tuesday, July 21, 2009, 9:53 AM > > > >> > > > >>Â > > > >> > > > >>Good morning, > > > >>I've been on 40mg prednisone for over a week now and didn't mind how > > it made me feel, like I was well again! Guest guest
, After my husband passed away and I could not sleep I took a natual sleep aid I got from Walgreens - no anti histamines as I am very much affected by them. The major component was Valerian root which has been used for hundreds of years. I think it was called Sleep eze. It worked as well or better than the ambian I had. I am on a steady 10 mgs of prednisone and actually have to take another drug called Provigil to keep me awake. Not only do I have severe sleep apnea but I also have hypersomnelence. I will sleep for 16 hours if given the chance. I swear if its not one thing its the other LOL Dyane PHoenix, IPF 02 > > > > >> > > > > >>From: lisac_wa <hope2thend@ ...> > > > > >>Subject: Prednisone - side effects > > > > >>To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com > > > > >>Date: Tuesday, July 21, 2009, 9:53 AM > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > > >>Good morning, > > > > >>I've been on 40mg prednisone for over a week now and didn't mind how > > > it made me feel, like I was well again!
