While the incidence and morbidity of colon cancer can be greatly reduced by increased colonoscopies and removal of polyps, it will not guarantee the end of the disease. My husband was a classic example of this. He had had a routine colonoscopy as part of his annual physical, with 'all-clear' results, only 17 months prior to his 'advanced, inoperable, stage IV diagnosis.
