Then again looking at the ages of your children has Georgi outgrown it Reading these messages again this slightly baffles me though. DD at 2 years 11 months hardly ever sits in the buggy anymore unless we are walking miles (the only reason I hold onto the double buggy). Are you guys all big walkers? Or am I really terrible making DD walk everywhere? She likes it - or she stands on the buggyboard - but I thought she'd really grown out of being pushed around? Guest guest
I think it depends very much on the child, Karina. DD2, at 1 years 9 months will happily walk much further than DS, who's 3. We do quite a lot of walking, now we have too many children for climbing/cycling and we generally take one backpack type carrier (a Karrimor - we decided early on we'd rather go for a specialist backpack maker than a baby manufacturer one, iyswim - the approach to comfort is slightly different from the carrier's p.o.v, but seems to make little difference to the babe) and my Happy Baby Sling. DS usually wants a piggyback after about half an hour and then is up and down for the rest of the walk (the Happy Baby Sling is brilliant at supporting him on my back), whereas DD2 will generally be reluctant to be put in the backpack even on the return leg. She's walked about a mile up the South West Coastal path - all uphill - and about 2/3 of the way up Mam Tor. Local shopping type walking is slightly different. They swap in and out of the buggy (I only take a single with me these days) and the one walking is supposed to hold on to the buggy frame. I don't have a buggy board, as we don't seem to have had a use for one so far. I do have one of those wrist strap things, though - invaluable, especially on busy roads! DS1 was 21 months when DS2 was born and I had a Mammas and Pappas tandem which was wonderful. We have really narrow paths so it fitted down fine, a double buggy style would have had me walking in the dog poo! DS1 was happy to be pushed but I think DS2 walked everywhere from about 1 year old. He refused to be put in a pushchair, and now age 6 won't walk if he could run. DS3 is completely the opposite, he refuses to walk anywhere, he will run around the garden quite happily but walk to the shops or school - forget it. In fact he walked a little on Saturday when I was shopping in Hull and I was amazed. Thats why I bought a bigger pushchair because he used it so much and was too fat for his other one.
