Today is my first day back at work, but, I am

feeling apprehensive. Are there any test besides the colonoscopy next

year that would give me a heads up if the cancer should reappear?

Thanks for your help & my prayers are with each of you.

Yes ask for a CT/PET scan. This catches any stray cells .

Hi, Glad you joined us here on the board. Perhaps you need to talk to

your docotr about getting a CEA blood count every three months. It is

not real reliable but it can help find reoccuring cancer. Many here

are having this done.

I am so glad that they caught your cancer early enough. That is the

most wonderful news!!!!! If you had to have cancer it is the best to

have caught it so early. Hope this info helps you some. Ingrid

My husband also had colon cancer in the cecum - his was stage 2 with no

lymph node involvement. He was advised to have chemo and radiation due

to the fact that colon cancer in the cecum is more likely to recur than

other places in the colon. I don't know what the oncologist would have

advised if his was stage 1 but due to the location of your cancer being

in a more risky area. It will be 3 years in February, 06 since his

surgery and he did undergo 6 months of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation.

He has had a CT scan, chest x-ray at least every 6 months, blood work

and check-up every 3 months. The last time we saw the oncologist - two

weeks ago, he said he would see my husband again in 4 months, so his

check-ups are being stretched out a bit. His last colonoscopy was last

December and he won't have another one until next December. He is

showing no evidence of disease. His liver enzymes are slightly elevated

and the docs are watching that closely.

I would want to be checked more often than once a year if I were

you....at least blood work, maybe a CT scan, etc... Waiting a year for

your next colonoscopy sounds reasonable given the circumstances - not so

sure about what seems to be essentially ignoring the fact that you were

diagnosed with colon cancer.

BTW - How was the cancer discovered? Did you have symptoms? Or was it

discovered from a routine colonoscopy?
