It is a flouroquinolone antibiotic. I believe somebody explained to me once that there are four major categories of antibiotics, and these flouroquinolones are the newest. Cipro is also in that category. I'm sure there are others. There's even a Yahoo group dedicated to people who have been harmed by these. They call themselves floxies. If you search archives of these chelation groups using onibasu, you should find some posts about this. I remember somebody giving some links, and I remember " ARCTIC CAT " posting about it too. > > Anyway, this was two years ago, and the first round of Levaquin, I seemed fine. But then I was given a second round about 6 weeks later, and that's the one that got me. You should find posts by me in archives about this with all the details. But basically, it *felt* like a huge mercury redistribution, and I went downhill after that with a huge regression, and honestly, I don't know if I have ever felt the same since. I had asked Andy, but as far as he knew, it is not a chelator. So I really don't know what happened to me, but it certainly derailed me. In the floxie yahoo group, I think they said it just basically takes time for the effects to wear off, and that they hadn't found any supps to help. So I haven't followed them, and I just keep chelating. And I believe they said the effects are cumulative, and everyone is different, so some react to the first dose, and some takes more doses, like me, before having trouble. > Hi Jackie - thank's for the information and sorry to hear about your problems with Levaquin. I know discussion group about fluoroquinolones toxicity. For me it stays unclear why some people have bad reactions to it. ---------Me too. It's been a long time since I've read there, but I recall, and some might have been members of our groups, that they reacted right from the first dose of it. But I think they said for others it was cumulative, such as in my case. And it really wasn't any kind of immediate allergic type reaction for me, but I definitely got worse after the second round of it, and I certainly don't care to try it again and test that theory!------------Jackie Maybe some of these bad reactions are due to triggering dormant infections and releasing bacterial toxins? (but on the other hand other antibiotics in your case were tolerated well). Hard to say... Even more strange is that first round with Levaquin was OK. ---------Yes it is hard to say, because I have tolerated all other antibiotics just fine, before and after. And I agree, that was what was so strange, that I was fine after the first round, and then the second round got me. So it was either a cumulative effect of the Levaquin, or possibly from the yeast that got really bad. But something happened after that second dose/round. And I just have a hard time believing that yeast could have caused all my symptoms.---------Jackie Just curious: 1. Did you chelate while on both courses of Levaquin or shortly after? --------No, I did not chelate while on Levaquin. I checked my records, and I did do a round of chelation between the two doses, about a month after the first dose, and I do long rounds, so it was a week long, and finished it shortly before the second course of Levaquin. I started another round less than a week after finishing the second course of Levaquin.----------Jackie 2. What was the dosage of Levaquin and for how many days? ------------First I was given IV antibiotics in the hospital for a couple of days, and then sent home with Levaquin, I believe it was 500mg 2X a day? I know it was for 10 days for sure the first time. Then the second course about 6 weeks later was for 6 days, probably the same dosage. I know it was higher dosages because of the appendix rupture.----------Jackie 3. What were the regression symptoms after 2nd round with Levaquin? --------Here's my notes from back then, " This second dose of antibiotics gave me yeast pretty bad, vaginally and gut. Also has flared up old mercury symptoms, feeling worse than since before amalgam removal. Mentally and emotionally. " Other notes about die off symptoms from treating yeast too hard, took too many things at once. Notes about Isocort not helping as much as before. More notes about feeling off mentally and emotionally, not feeling like socializing, more anxiety, very emotional, feeling much worse off round than on, and that includes physical symptoms like burning/aching in arms/shoulders, arms feel like lead weights, hips aching, very tired and fatigued, Isocort not helping much. Is that enough? Yikes! I haven't read that stuff for awhile. I just remember it was a really bad time, and the only thing that helped somewhat was chelation, so I would do as long of rounds as I could stand. Since chelation did seem to help, that also made me believe that the whole thing was mercury related.--------Jackie Thank's, djur1
