I joined the group because I begin oral chelation this week for mercury toxicity. I'm doing it under the guidance of a holistic MD. I'm on alert already. Having spent a lot of time at conferences, medical/dental/nutritional/chiropractic/othomolecular/DAN, I have learned something about how the medical world works. They go to a week-end conference, get their CEU's ( " Continuing education units " , a requirement to keep their license) and then come home and start " practicing " . While this isn't good in any field, when it comes to chelation it's a calamity, since moving neurotoxins around the body indiscriminately is very dangerous. More and severe neurological damage can be caused that way. >I joined the group to learn more. Good. I would suggest you start with Andy Cutlers book(s) at NoAmalgam.Com. Make sure to read the first page of " Amalgam Illness " , where he gives a list of things that you really don't want to do. >The chelation we're doing is new and not on the market yet. **STAY VERY FAR AWAY** >My doctor trials different protocols and medications. Don't let him experiment on you. This is edgy stuff anyway, you can be hurt. >So I wanted to learn more about the other options, Very sensible. I'm glad you are here. >as he told me that this protocol won't get rid of all metals, just mercury, and just from the CNS. So we'll have to do a round of a different chelator later in order to deal with whatever the other tests turn up for other metals, and to get the mercury out of the rest of my body. >Thanks, and I look forward to joining in. I would suggest that the first thing you need to do is to make sure you are clear on what is going on with you. If you go to DirectLabs.Com you can order the " Hair Elements " test (_not_ the " Toxic Hair Elements " test). Tell them that you come from the Autism Mercury list, and they will give you a discount. When you get the results, post them to the files section of the AM list, or send them to Dean and have him post it on his web site. Directions here: http://www.livingnetwork.co.za/hairtest.html. Then, let us know that it is available, and people here will make comments. The second thing you can do is to begin to explore dietary interventions. If you have not done it, you will need to try an " exclusion diet " to see if you have any food allergies. If you do turn out to be mercury poisoned, it will also be important for you to do a " sulfur exclusion diet " to find out if you are high or low sulfur. This latter will be the most important one thing you can do for symptoms. You can go to onibasu.com and search on both of those. Finally, I would suggest reading on this and the autism-mercury lists. Use onibasu.com and perhaps work on getting some respect for how important it is to do this right. You will see lots of reports of bad reactions there (and also at places like DMPSBackfire.Com), which will hopefully motivate you to taking this process of education very seriously, indeed. Dave.
