Guest guest
Dyane, Just a word about lack of bladder control. Stress incontinence is a symptom I've struggled with for several years. Mine was caused mainly by years and years of coughing putting excess pressure on my pelvic floor. When I moved here to NC I mentioned this problem to my new gyn. She suggested "pelvic floor physical therapy". I leapt at the opportunity to improve this problem even a little bit. I've been going now for about 4 or 5 months, twice monthly and am thrilled to report about 80% improvement! I've gone from using the large Poise pads to being able to just use the panti-liners. This has been so encouraging for me as I thought it was something I just had to live with. I was skeptical initially but gave it an honest effort and have been very pleasantly surprised! Kind of like well you need to loseweight, but we will do nothing to help you do that! I realize Doctorsare not the wizards we wish they would be, but sometimes to really stopand think about what they are telling us. I believe I needed 02 longbefore I really began using 24/7 but because I blamed my SOB on being'out of shape' I would just keep pushing (being a mom trains you to justkeep going no matter how YOU feel) and I probably did spend hours in themid eighties with my heart rate about 140. Could be why I have theenlarged heart. Luckily its a healthy enlarged heart. Not so sureabout the enlarged liver or the loss of bladder control. Again womentend to 'go with the flow' so to speak because of child bearing, etc.,but the bladder is one organ that lack of o2 causes problems. If I hadgotten an oxymeter when I first was sick I could have been checking mysats all through the time I was "stable". When I went to the doc mysats were always 92 ish but I was just standing there DUH! We alwaysjoked because my husband who only had one lung would have sats at thedoc of 97-98 and I was always 89-92. Yeah five years of doingdamage....You are very lucky to be so proactive. I wish I had foundthis group so much sooner. So glad I have them now!Dyane Phoenix IPF 02> > >> > > E-mail from my pulmonary specialist:> > > Group Health usually does not provide oximeters. Guest guest
Beth, Is it more than just kegals? Cuz I have done kegals till Im blue in the face and I would wake up at night stand up and *** right down my legs. I am much better now that I take Detrol LA. The nighttime problem stopped but I still have the sneeze/cough problem and something like a slow leak. Its a shame but for years it was do your kegals and like I said my husbands were happy but I wasnt peeing in their pants LOL. This is right in the top 10 questions I have for when I meet God. How come a 50 year old man can't hardly pee at all and a 50 year old women just about pees everywhere? I really think the good Lord must have a great sense of humor:) > > > > > > > > E-mail from my pulmonary specialist: > > > > Group Health usually does not provide oximeters. Guest guest
Diane, It is more than just kegels. This is why I was so skeptical....I've been doing kegels for years and it hasn't stopped me from developing the stress incontinence. There are several different muscle groups to learn how to isolate and exercise. It's not difficult but it does take a physical therapist who works with women with this issue regularly. Mine is straitforward stress incontinence, I don't have any issues with urgency or frequency so Detrol was not an option for me. Like I said, it's so much better it feels miraculous. And the bonus is between Medicare and my supplement it was all covered 100%. This is also on my list of 'God questions'.....all the indignities of aging and disability.....not for the weak, that's for sure!
