As for elastic stockings that is for PREVENTION if your legs are swollen already they will cut off the circulation. He may need them drained.;-( Narice Not necessarily, Narice....It does help with prevention, but Mom was swollen with fluid in the ankles for years and wore the support hose to push the fluid up in to the leg...ask the dr. Guest guest
Narice How are Phil's feet, has the swelling gone down? Just wondered if putting on the elastic stocking would help. Just a thought. Going to see Onc in couple hours. And then spose I should go vote. A bunch of proposals which are a bit redundant. Wish I had gone early. Oh well I should know better by now. Guest guest
My husband too was blown up with constant IV's when he had his surgery. I honestly think that the nurses and doctors don't pay any attention to the needs of the patient for fluid....they just keep pumping it in - oblivious to the consequences. One of the worst memories we have of that time is how painful it was - his legs, feet and private parts were extremely swollen and painful. When he finally got someone's attention about it, they decreased BUT DID NOT STOP the IV fluids going into him. After not eating for nearly a week, he came home from the hospital weighing 25 pounds more than when he entered. He, too, was several weeks getting the extra fluid off - a misery that I consider unnecessary and due to an almost complete lack of attention to this aspect of post-surgery care. Evidence of this are the many similar stories from all parts of the country - apparently it is routine medical protocol to force fluids on hospitalized cancer and surgery patients. Something should be done about this. I feel for Phil and hope he gains relief very soon.
