Oh brother not that hoary old chestnut of a myth again! It gives

Judaism a bad name, and makes us look ridiculous :((

Sexual relations do have limitations; we aren't allowed to be

intimate when the woman is menstruating, and for seven days

afterwards,(known as her seven clean days) she then purifies herself

by immersing in a " Mikveh " or ritual bath. It usually works out that

husband and wife are " together again " for her most fertile time,

about 12-14 days after her period begins. So the once a month thing

isn't true, but what is true is that have restraint on intimacy for

about 12 days per month.

The sex through a sheet thing is nothing but a myth, there is no

basis in truth in it at all. It keeps coming up and I really have no

idea where it originated from.

HTH!

Thank you Ruthie and glad to hear it is just a myth - it seemed so

stupid, but then again from what I could gather the couple

were " Jewish " so they got invited to the best parties! As I said I

don't watch it normally but DH was watching.

I thought we would have had a mention about the sheet at some point

as we seem to have discussed the sexual side of been Jewish before!

(Not meant unkindly it is always interesting to hear about other

religious points of view).

Not taken unkindly. I just wish I could put this enduring myth to

rest once and for all. Even some Jewish couples believe that's how

we do sex! I remember my cousin, just before her wedding, in complete

ignorance of our sexual practices, panicking at the thought of sex

through a hole in the sheet, and, in complete silence, another myth

she had heard.

I've come across this but only in conjunction with writings by the

strictest of Latterday Saints. But then again - this is from academic

anthropology published in the 60's so could be just of much of a myth!

But not Jews, and it's about time someone came out of the woodwork

and said that we don't *have* any really weird sexual practices,

unless you count our separation during menstruation as weird.
