Hi

When I talk about vaccinations and autism I always state that vaccinations

may not be the only cause of autism, but it is one of the major ones. Now we

find another drug that has been used liberally in childhood illnesses and is

being implicated - augmentin. Seems like the cure may be worse than the

dis-ease.

ARTICLE 02/16/08:

Commonly Prescribed Antibiotic

Implicated in Autism

In a study released this week, the antibiotic Augmentin TM has been strongly

implicated in the formation of autism. The study published in Medical

Hypotheses strongly suggests the possibility of ammonia poisoning as a

result of young children taking Augmentin.

Yonkers, NY (PRWEB) January 5 -- In a study released this week, the

antibiotic Augmentin TM has been implicated in the formation of autism. The

study strongly suggests the possibility of ammonia poisoning as a result of

young children taking Augmentin.

Augmentin has been given to children since the late 1980's for bacterial

infections. Composed of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium, Augmentin has

proven a potent antibacterial, especially for ear infections which quickly

become resistant to amoxicillin alone.

The manufacture of AugmentinTM involves the fermentation of clavulanic acid.

The fermentation process involves large amounts of urea/ammonia. Ingested

ammonia can potentially injure the intestines of small children as well as

brain and nervous tissue. Even a small residue of urea/ammonia can

potentially induce a substantial brain inflammation or abnormality.

The study, published in Medical Hypotheses, (2005 64, 312-315) examines 206

children under the age of 3 diagnosed with autism. These children were found

to have a significantly higher number of ear infections than the general

pediatric population. These same children received, on average, 12 courses

of antibiotics representing a sum total number of 2480. Of the 2480, 893 of

these courses were Augmentin with 362 of those given under the age of 1

year.

Dr. Joan Fallon, scientist, autism researcher and author of the study,

states that, " Augmentin is one of the most widely prescribed drugs for

children. Its introduction into the marketplace for use in the treatment of

childhood illnesses corresponds with the significant increase in the

incidence of autism. It is possible that some children, especially those

with immaturity, or others at risk for developmental disorders can be

injured by taking this drug. It is imperative that further research be

undertaken to determine if a subset of children are at risk for

neurotoxicity due to the use of clavulanate or clavulanic acid in

pharmaceutical preparations - especially Augmentin. "

COMMENTS:

I have done many articles in the past discussing the dangers concerning the

overuse/abuse of antibiotics. Actually I have done 2 or 3 packets worth of

information that I have handed out during past seminars.

The American Medical Association have published in their journals articles

stating that they felt antibiotics were over utilized. They have also said

that it should not be the first line of defense for ear infections. This

sounds a lot like what Chiropractors have been saying for the last 100-years

or so.

The medical literature attests to the fact that the use of antibiotics for

ear infections can actually prolong the problem and increase the re

occurrence. Even though Chiropractic does not treat earaches, or any

disease, it has been extremely successful in helping children and adults who

do suffer from this problem by just clearing out nerve interference and

allowing the body to act as it is supposed to act.

This latest development above though adds another horrific dimension to

these drugs.

But who is to blame for this overuse of antibiotics? Is it the doctor or is

it the patient?

If you want to read a good book concerning antibiotics I recommend the book

Beyond Antibiotics written by 3 doctors, 2 of whom are pediatricians,

Schmidt, and Schnert.

The Institute of Medicine's report, Emerging Infections, urged that to solve

the antibiotic crisis, we must use antibiotics more wisely and adopt " health

promoting behaviors. " The steps to these health-enhancing behaviors are

outlined in the book I just mentioned above. In this book the authors

describe factors that lower immunity and how to avoid them, factors that

improve immune function, and an overall wellness plan. They cover

nutrition/diet, lifestyle, environment and the psychological aspects.

Learn what you can do to prevent these problems and you won't have to fear

antibiotic caused autism.

Prevention before drugs,
