Guest guest
-Thanks . I was thinking of going back and asking about antibiotics. I mean they only tried two and that was in November. Here it is almost May. The doctors are telling me that " they think I had a virus or bacterial lung infection that has left me with irritated lungs, which is causing this " . However that does not explain why my ears are full of fluid and hurt, I cough up junk, my throat got sore and tonsils infected..etc. With the new warnings out about not over prescribing antibiotics, now they don't want to give them to anyone. They told me ear infections go away on their own (huh..I am proof that is not the case for all of us) My ENT appointment is next tues. I think I will be angry if I go in and he says all I need is antibiotics. Jada, I had a bad infection like you are talking about and and it got into my ears and made my eardrum rupture, it took many months for that to heal up and was very painful. Its ridiculous not to give antibx for those infections. See another Dr asap! Marcia .
Guest guest
I really think it would be worth testing lung function to see if you have a touch of asthma. All that's involved is blowing in a machine that measures the volume of air expelled - if you can only find the doctor that has the machine. If there is asthma, treating it can help to prevent these infections from going on for so long, which helps to prevent secondary infections, and the treatment doesn't go on for life (like some people believe). (You didn't mention if the cough is worse at night - that's one sign of coughing asthma). The remedy I use for *external* ear infections is a mix of half vinegar and half ethanol, put a half teaspoon in the ear for about 5 min, once or twice a day until the symptoms stop. It won't help with internal ear infections. I also think that adrenal support will help (maybe not to get rid of this one, but to prevent or help treat the next one). I have had at least one course of antibiotics per year for about 20 years and a recent test showed that there are no antibiotic resistant genes in my normal flora (bacteria pass genes from one to another). Sure, there's no point using antibiotics to treat a virus, but it sounds like you are having secondary (bacterial) infections. Andy usually says to post the message in a group and send him the post number (as you probably already know). J > > -Thanks . > I was thinking of going back and asking about antibiotics. Albuterol will give temporary relief by opening up the air ways. It does nothing to help in the long term. If they were concerned enough to give you albuterol then they should give you the inhalers that actually help (the ones that contain steroids - at very low doses that help to heal the lungs). They > keep saying " maybe you have allergies " . I say, ok well maybe, but why > do I have a fever off and on? The fever is a sign of infection. Perhaps some of the other things that you are taking (like cortisol? I can't remember your dose) are masking the fever. I carry all my cortisol fact sheets with me now in case I ever get an infection I can show the doctors that cortisol masks the signs of infection. J I am with you on the infection part. > > >
Guest guest
I did the machine test, sorry I don't where that reply went. I do have reduced function but they thought it was from infection. Going through my hx file here, they did note bronchial asthma (which they failed to tell me they thought I had) in the 90's and I kept having bronchitis and URI infections every year. The coughing is worse at night. I hack up what looks like infected phlegm, it has the foulness to it. The cough is a deep bark, I sound like a seal, spastic..I damn near wet my pants I cough so hard. I am going back into the doctor today, because I have been like this for a week now, and now I also have developed a UTI. Sadly my ear is inner. I do use garlic oil for ear problems, but it hasn't touched this. It's fluid that can't get out likely due to swollen tonsils. I suspect if they treat the bacterial infection, the ear/sinus problem may resolve with it as it did in the past. I just switched doctors and have seen this one once last week for the tonsillitis, so going back in still sick to prompt for something to be done. Also creeping up my HC for adrenals as we speak, since I think my endocrine problems are part of why I keep getting infections. I want to thank you for all the help. But I would also try the elderberry for sure for the lung/cough thing, and how about that product called Mucinex? It might be worth a shot.----------Jackie Sadly my ear is inner. I do use garlic oil for ear problems, but it hasn't touched this. It's fluid that can't get out likely due to swollen tonsils. I suspect if they treat the bacterial infection, the ear/sinus problem may resolve with it as it did in the past. ------------I think you mentioned using oil of oregano before, but I thought you said you drink it in water? When my sisters' and I use it, we put a couple drops under our tongue, and let it absorb that way. My sister says she feels it go up her ear tube and/or sinuses. I can feel it being absorbed also. You may want to try this method. It is very strong tasting, and some people can't tolerate it this way, but for whatever reason, I like taking it this way.-----------Jackie I just switched doctors and have seen this one once last week for the tonsillitis, so going back in still sick to prompt for something to be done. Also creeping up my HC for adrenals as we speak, since I think my endocrine problems are part of why I keep getting infections. -----------Yes the HC may help alot. I had weak adrenals for years, not knowing what it was, and I used to be sick all the time, and I had a hard time shaking infections or they would reoccur. But like I said in my other post, I don't know if I'm better now from HC or all the other stuff I'm taking for immune support, but something is working! Illness is hard on your adrenals, so the HC should definitely help.---------Jackie I want to thank you for all the help. I appreciate it! <snip>
Guest guest
I just came back from them. My pcp is out this week so I had to see the NP. Not that this pcp would know history anyway, I have only been seeing her a short time. She said she thinks I had a cold (the tonsillitis) and now the lungs are involved. So she gave me some med for the coughing. She said it should pass soon, if not to call on friday. My urine was neg and they thought that maybe the pain was caused by one of the cough meds. She heard no wheezing and said my lungs sound clear. I do have swollen lymphs in neck and is what is usual for a virus. I don't know....anyway, I started on OLE yesterday and will keep taking it along with gse, probiotics. The inhaler is useless at this point, because I am not short of breath, nor do I wheeze. Just cough ridiculously. Anyway...they were more interested in " when I was diagnosed as hypothyroid since my chart said I was on Armour " . I made up the story of " just recently " and told them of my Hashi's family and they dropped the questions. Since I am " unofficial " . The lab seems to think a T4 of .9 is normal. I don't.
