Guest guest
Judy, I'm so sorry to hear you are in such awful pain but I am glad that your lung is doing well. I can't believe it's nearly two years...time goes by so quickly! I don't have any light to shed on the back pain. I don't have anything like the back problems that you describe, just some neck pain when I'm especially stressed and overdoing. I do sleep on a 100% latex foam mattress that I love. It's firm but very comfortable. I got it when I was concerned about dust issues in regular mattresses but now I wouldn't have anything else. Is there a physical therpist or someone like that you can pose this question to? Hope you get some relief soon! My new lung that I received 8/22/07 has been doing great. However, I awoke on June 27th with sudden severe back pain in my lumbar area near my waist and left hip. I've had degenerative disc disease for 30 years but did o.k. for many years until last Sat. They have done MRI's over the years & last Nov. said I had severe Scoliosis, which I knew since I had shrunk from 5'10" to 5'5" over the last maybe 10 years. Mon. I saw my family doctor who simply said I needed an Epidural and to take my Oxycodone which I had not had to take since last Dec. Tues. I saw the pain doctor who had prescribed all the pain meds last year and she gave me 2 numbing shots, but they did not help. I had also contacted my lung doctor who ordered an MRI of the Thoracic, Lumbar and Sacral; and it was done on Thur. Yes, it shows that my back is much worse than it was last Nov. My pain doctor has me scheduled for the Epidural on Mon. Meanwhile I saw an Urgent Care doc yesterday who prescribe Hydrocodone over the weekend, but it is not helping. The photos of my spine are so bad I am wondering if I need a different type of mattress; and if that would even make a different now as it looks like a portion of my spine has nothing around it. Before I had the transplant I bought one of those electronic beds since I have Reflux and was going to have the transplant surgery. I thought I would ask if any of you have back problems especially Scoliosis; and if so what type mattress would you recommend. I had used a firm Seally Posturpedic for years, but since I have used this Original Mattress Electronic Bed my back has gotten so much worse. I have said all week that I have felt like joining Thelma and Louise. Just joking. I am too determined to get better to give up. However, I am fearing that my days of walking are going away soon. Right now it is miserable to even sit on pillows at the computer, to stand up and to drive my car I scream as I drive and lean my body to my right side since the pain is in the left.Judy (OHIO) IPF 11/06 TX 8/07 - Sudden Severe Back Pain 6/27/
Guest guest
Judy, I don't have a new lung, but I do have the reflux, degen. bone dis. stress fractures in lumbar region, etc. After 25yrs of back pain I know how you feel totally. Is there a sports med clinic or Ortho pain management anywhere near where you live. They do better than a regular ortho does. I went to Wal-Mart and bought the foam mattress thay have for about 300.00 and I find this has helped. I also take around 100mg morphine time-released per day. Believe it or not, I also have taped the flat magnets on each side of the spine and that also helps. It could be that you are getting the muscles out of whack just trying to stop the pain. the magnets help the muscles. I have had ISI (internal steroid injections) on and off for about 15yrs. I hate to keep running on on the board, if you would like private e-mail me and we can discuss this longer HP,PF 6/05 TN Subject: Back Problem QuestionTo: Breathe-Support Date: Saturday, July 4, 2009, 10:00 AM Happy 4th of July to all you air friends. Guest guest
Judy wish i could help, but... my back problem was different and it was helped by surgery -- herniated disk -- i remember how painful it was -- sitting was the most painful -- standing and laying down were the least painful sometimes the floor was more comfortable than the bed when i laid on my side, i would prop myself up with pillows when laying on my back, the doc told me one pillow under my head and two pillows under my knees -- but... don't think that would agree with lung problems doesn't it suck!!! doing fine after the transplant and now a back problem!!! sure wish you some relief from the pain Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Back Problem QuestionTo: Breathe-Support Date: Saturday, July 4, 2009, 11:00 AM Happy 4th of July to all you air friends. Guest guest
there might be other people on the board with back problems, so this might help them too we just don't hear about their back problems on a regular basis Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Re: Back Problem QuestionTo: Breathe-Support Date: Saturday, July 4, 2009, 12:03 PM Judy, I don't have a new lung, but I do have the reflux, degen. bone dis. stress fractures in lumbar region, etc. After 25yrs of back pain I know how you feel totally. Is there a sports med clinic or Ortho pain management anywhere near where you live.
