Guest guest
What is the proper dose range for both oil-based vitamin A and water-based carotenoids? I've skimmed the posts on supplements and the information on vitamin A is unclear. According to conventional sources, oil-based vitamin A (retinol) should not be taken long-term in excess of 10,000 IU/day due to possible liver toxicity. Water-based vitamin A (beta carotene and mixed carotenoids) are nontoxic at high doses, but are harder to absorb and metabolize. Currently I take 8000 IU/day of retinol (and I crave vitamin-A-rich foods, e.g., butter, cream). Thank you.
