DS3 was born the next day, so she wasn't that far wrong! My friend's first labour had been very long and ended in a c-section and that time we had walked around a local park and lake during the early part of her labour. I dread to think what we would have done if she had suddenly got stronger contractions etc as altho we were less than a mile from the hospital as the crow flies, we wouldn't have got there - it was more like 3 miles of parkland alone to get to a road and neither of us had a mobile at that time to call for help. When she went into labour with her second we expected it to be another long job but decided to go into Nottingham instead. I had to choose a wedding pressie for a friend and her list was at . I was decidedly unimpressed with their wedding list service - 'I'd like to buy this' 'You'll have to go to the relevant dept to see if it's in stock' etc. The woman asked if my friend was ok as she was pacing up and down. Would she like a chair? No I said, she's in labour and needs to keep active. Service changed immediately. They suddenly decided to call the depts themselves and check if things were in stock. Couldn't get hold of people so I agreed vouchers could be sent in place if necessary. Five mins later we were out of the shop! Her baby wasn't born until the early hours of the following day, BTW. She said she cursed our shopping trip later that evening as she was so tired and wouldn't have been if she hadn't spent all day wandering round town. Successful VBAC, though. -- Sue
