Guest guest
Apologies if this gets a bit weird, we are on hols and I am trying to connect through Granny's TV (it all looks very strange, but here goes). DS (1 tomorrow!) has had horrible diarrea since Friday (5 days) and I need some advice. It's green, horrible, and foul-smelling, and we end up changing nappies 15-20 times a day, as well as at night (normally he would never have dirty nappies at night). Needless to say he also has a very red and sore bottom whivh I don't think will get any better until his tummy is better. I remember something about bananas and rice, but can't remember if that is for runny tummies or for constipation? I've tried to cut all sorts of things out of his diet (fruit etc) but it makes no difference. Also don't know why he got it - is it a bug or something he has eaten? I can't remember that he had anything on Friday that he doesn't normally have, but of course he can have sneak in some bacteria or lumps of soil when I wasn't looking. Do you have any advice - he is quite chirpy so I'm not too worried, but at the same time I don't want it to go on. I haven't got a GP here (but of course I could take him to casulaty if he gets worse). Be nice if he didn't have a sore bottom for his birthday tomorrow... No - bananas and rice is for runny tummies - and cutting out milk for 24 hours and just giving water. If he was slightly older then I would also recommend flat lemonade instead (don't know why it works but it does.) He needs lots of fluids. Are you in the UK? can you get to a chemist and ask their advice? Dioralyte might not be suitable for his age - but can help too. If he's chirpy then don't worry too much - just keep the liquids up and if it is still doing this when he gets back home then take him to the GPs where they will ask for a stool sample to be sent off for checking. Often just a change in the water in different areas can set children off with this. Caroline
