Guest guest
Hi Bob, Welcome to our Air Family. The first thing we all needed to realize is we are NOT going to die tomorrow.. Live your life like youhave that 40 years.. You can see by my signature I have been diagnosed for over 5 years and am still kicking even though not getting my feet up more than a few inches.. LOL Without my Faith and the peace I have I would be a basket case. I know God has a plan. You are very wise to go on a cruse. That will be so much fun. Have you seen where some of us are going to meet in Oct. in Chattanooga, Tn.We have had a couple meetings just to yack and hug and encourage..IT is wonderful. If your Dr's give you a time frame ask them to show you where the expiration date is stamped.. NOT They don't really know. Where do you live ? I hope you are going to a University Medical Center. You have the advantage of all your tests and Dr under one roof.I do anyhow. I go to Shands at UF in Gainesville.Enough for now again Welcome and tell your wife to relax a bit. There is a Caregiver support group also. Just look on the home page and you will find the site address.God Bless you with strength and peace to endure.. You are NOT alone. Take Care of you. I was Dx with IPF Jan 8,09. I have to thank all the regulars on this board, I learned more here than anywhere else. I guess its understandable since We are all living it! Not JUST talking about it! The first thing all Newbies want to know is... what "stage" they are in or how long do they have? I( of course, did the same. At the first Dx Dr told me I had IPF, there is no cure and survival rate is 3 years! Needless to say, Diane (my wife) and I were devastated. Went home in a daze, never heard of pf ....and now I will die from it! Thank God for this board, I learned I may have more time , than the three years I was told. The next time I went to see Dr. , he was not in, so....I saw his associate, Dr Lovey (just by his name I knew things were going to get better!) sure enough, he said maybe its not as dire as Dr. first said. he said we'd wait 3 Mos then get another HRCT make comparisons and see what we see. So,.....the next time I saw Dr Lovey he said,"Bob you really move air very well, you have a lot of muscle and I see no reason you can't live another 40 years! Oops...How old are you? I Said 69. He said OK then, lets say 30 yrs, no guarantee after that"..... So...........Somewhere between 3 and 30?????Both Dr's are pulomonologists....I am on 2-3 lpm of O2 walking , none sitting, 4-5 Exercising. I had 5 bypases in 01. Diane and I just booked a 14 day Mediterranean Cruise for this November.
