Guest guest
Just some thoughts on all the discussions regarding GERD and Prednisone.. I started having horrible heartburn with my first child at 17 (I'm 53 now). I lived on Maalox until around 1980 or so when they finally did a fluoroscopic examination. I remember because I couldn't drink anything after midnight and as the pictures came up the doctor started yelling at me that they would have to reschedule as I had obviously had something to drink that morning. I protested and he soon changed his mind and realized the puddle in my stomach was ACID not water. At that time they put me on Tagamet and I was happy for years until another doctor said I couldn't stay on Tagamet because it was going to ruin my liver. This was around 1987. Back to living on Maalox. Finally around 1991 I was put on Prilosec and now the generic Omeprazole. I have never had any problems. I usually joke that I will commit murder rather than go without! Prednisone oh where do we start, in 2002 when I first got sick my lungs swelled so badly I was on a respirator for 8 days. On Salumedrole IV in the hospital and came home on 60 mgs of prednisone and 3lpm of O2 and started stepping down until 5 months later I was off the prednisone and the O2. I didn't realize how good I felt until I was off the Prednisone for a month or two. I have fibro(have had for years) I have bad disks in my back and neck. I have no meniscus in both knees. I had absolutely no change in CT or PF results for 4 years. The fifth year I knew my lungs were gitting worse but my dear husband was losing his battle with cancer and so my needs came in second. Unfortunetly I ended up with pneumonia and again went home with o2. I mainly used it at night with my Cpap. 3 months before he passed I bought an oximeter and realized I was dropping into the 80's while grocery shopping and so I put myself on the o2 during the daytime. 2008 was a period of slow decline. My diffusion rate dropped from 55% to 38% and my lpm have been inching up to now I'm on a straight 5lpm at work and 6-8lpm at home and my pulmodudette began talking transplant. I went back on 10mg of Prednisone and 25mgs of Azethioprine (I believe this is the generic Imuran)in January and today I feel like the lungs have stabilized again and I HAVE NO PAIN. If I have to put up with some blurry vision to have no pain - there is no choice. My lungs will kill me long before I have to have cataract surgery LOL. I feel so good I continue to work, etc. Sorry to be so long winded but I just wanted to react to some of the posts. Sunny I hope you feel better soon, I know what its like to live with so many things wrong that you begin to wonder what next? Like you I try to laugh, I joke that my heart and my blood pressure are the only things still working on me! Hang on to Rich tight, he's way too cute! Joyce if you get in that little car drop down to Phoenix and we'll go to lunch. Lou, I miss you. LOVE YOU ALL THIS DAY! Bruce keep up the info, you are better than the internet. Walt keep the jokes coming, we all need more laughter in our lives.
