Guest guest
Anneliese: It depends what denomination of Judaism. The orthodox srvices do not use instrumental music on Sabbaths and festivals at all, as the playing of instruments is forbidden on those days, Yom Kippur being the holiest day of the year! We do have very lovely unaccompanied choirs tho, some of which are *extremely* harmonious. In our little " shul " there is no choir but the cantor who leads the services on Yom Kippur in particular has been chosen for his wonderful voice and tuneful renditions of the prayers. The reform, Progressive and other less observant denominations have all kinds of music, but it isn't for me to speak about it. They also sit together in mixed sex congregations, whereas in orthodox services they sit separately. HTH Ruthie
