In an earlier posting (need a push in the right direction) I talked about seeing the doctor (family practice) for a try at hydrocortisone for adrenal insuffiency. We went today and he said he was not comfortable prescribing HC on a daily basis but was ok with a prednisolone taper. He ordered it at 5 mg 3x's a day. Then said that i could taper it down to once a day and he will see us in a month. That was the extent of the instructions. I know that prednisolone at 5mg is the equivalent to 20mg of HC. I don't think I will be doing his exact dosing unless someone who has done this sort of thing tells me it went ok for them. ---------In the back of AI, Andy has instructions for doing a prednisolone taper. So check that out. had me do a HC taper, which was 60mg/day for a week, then 40, then 20, and that went fine. I think others (Dana?) have also done HC tapers with her, so hopefully they will respond.----------Jackie More below about the thyroid.----------Jackie Carie > > > > This is Tim's latest Thyroid test. > > Although the TSH doesn't look right to me, Im having trouble knowing if > > the relationship between all tests suggest an abnormality. > > Not sure how to do the comparison in andy's book. Anyway, as said, they usually suggest your Free T3 and Free T4 to be in the upper part 1/3 to 1/4 of the range, to feel the best. It seems with mercury toxic people, that the TSH often doesn't mean much, so you can probably just ignore that. The last one is checking for thyroid antibodies, and he doesn't have any, so that is good. The other question would be is what are his temps like? This is what Dean would suggest, is that you track his temperatures, and if he's low, then he needs thyroid support. More info at his livingnetwork website, should be in links section. Dean also has some good thyroid info and links there too. So I would suggest you do some reading there. Oh, and remember, always treat the adrenals first, before the thyroid.----------Jackie > > Carie > > > > TSH is 0.85 Ref range(0.34-5.60 IU/ml) > > Free T4 0.87 Ref range (0.58-1.26 ng/gl) > > Free T3 327 Ref range (230-420 pg/dl) > > Total T4 8.1 Ref range (6.1-12.2 ug/dl) > > T3 Uptake 38.6 Ref range (32.0-48.4%) > > FTI 7.8 Ref range (5.9-13.1 ug/dl) > > Thyroid Peroxidase AB <10 Ref range (<35) > > >
