Guest guest
Simon - I've been wondering about the same thing. I had serious problems with both adrenals and fibro-myalgia. I took Andy's advice and used a lot of magnesium, but it didn't do any good. It was only a couple of years into this that I started taking a combination of calcium, table salt and baking soda, which turns out to be exactly what I needed. This is kind of odd, because Mg is the element that muscles use to signal relaxation, and Ca is for contraction; nevertheless, it works for me. Subsequently, I've found comments by others that indicate that what they needed for things like TMJ was also Ca. Don't ask me why, but what is clear is that we all have problems with electrolytes, which appear to go back to hormonal problems as various adrenal and thyroid hormones regulate electrolyte levels. So experimenting with them (electrolytes) is definitely important. Dave. Posted by: " simon " simoncohen_2@... Fri Apr 18, 2008 5:33 am (PDT) Hello all, can someone tell me something about the calcium-magnesium ratio (2:1) ? I couldn't find anything about that in AI. I know Andy stimulates to take magnesium; I take 800 mg. magnesium at this moment (since 3 days). Especially because I have a lot of stiffness; I think my stiffness is less the last days, but I am just starting. My only concern is the ratio between calcium and magnesium: do I have to take calcium, or - when I feel no problems at all - just leave it that way ? I am curious what your answer will be. Thank you in advance. P.s.: I " ll stay at 25 mg. dmsa and 25 mg. ala; I tryed 37.5 ala one round, but it seemed to be too much; 25 mg ala looks just fine. Tomorrow I " ll start round 31. Guest guest
Dave (and ), thanks for your opinion. I indeed think/feel it is al about problems with electrolytes. Today I am as bad as ever: itching, dizzy and almost no power anymore: too much magnesium ? I started calcium too and experiment with both, on different occasions, to see if I can figure out what suits me best. I just took calcium, and I feel better ?! Just experimenting. My copper-level has been very high too (in my hair-analyses; 3 years ago !), as wel as my calcium-level, so... Guest guest
One thing to keep in mind is that [at least here in the US] calcium is heavily " fortified " into many foods by the food industry. Especially for anyone consuming dairy products, it is still more likely that they need magnesium and not calcium. I have also seen articles saying the ratio should be 1:1 and that they should not be taken at the same time... which I thought was hysterical since they are so often combined as one supplement. > > Just recently I learned that the typical ratio is 2:1 (calcium:magnesium), and that you really shouldn't take calcium without magnesium. I didn't know that you can OD on magnesium, and since, at the time I found this out, I was downing TUMS for acid reflux, I was taking the appropriate amount of magnesium with it --- oh, man, MAJOR diarrhea for days! Don't take too much magnesium lol > > Also, I discovered that taking my Tri-salts alleviated the acid stomach by helping balance the acid/pH, so I no longer use TUMS > : Donna >
