Guest guest
I was just looking through the files about NAC while trying to find ways to increase my glutathione conjugation. Now, first a question - it seems that NAC is not recomended if you are trying to avoid sulphur foods. If this is the case then what can one do to increase glut. conj.? Secondly, I came across several posts about the NAC causing some symptoms such as runny noses and other stuff. I have recently been researching into Clamydia Pneumoniae (Cpn) and stealth infections so I do know that NAC is very very important in this field. What I know about it in this area may well be important knowledge to some of you here.I will explain a little but my knowledge here is very new so I may not explain it perfectly: Cpn is a bacterial infection which most people get at some time in their life. For some it causes chronic ill health. It hides in the cells and has variousl stages to it's life cycle which is why it isn't killed off by conventional treatment. It is also often undetectable. Several Docs are treating MS patients with a special protocol for this. And many others with CFS are finding benefits from treating it too. it's a complicated subject so I won't go on. But what is important is that on the protocols used to fight this bug, the first thing they use is NAC. It is even sometimes used as a trial to see if it induces symptoms assocoated with the Cpn being affected. One of the things the Cpn produces are EB's (Elementary Bodies). What has been found is that NAC actually kills these EB's quite effectively. When they are killed, toxins are released and these toxins make you feel rough for days or weeks. typical symptoms are flu like symptoms, sinus problems, coughing, runny nose etc. So many folk who have or believe they may have the Cpn, do a trial with the NAC to see if they have this reaction. Hope you are following! So the comments I am seeing on this group COULD be something along a similar line? In which case this could explain some of these symptoms that people get when taking NAC. As I say I am new to a lot of this but I thought some of you may find this interesting and want to research it further. I am also aware of the possibility that many of us with mercury poisoning have infections such as this which cause problems simply because the mercury is mucking everything up and hopefully once the mercury is out the immune system will work properly. One can only hope!

More, in the form of NAC, will just make you feel worse. In order to encourage the formation of glutathione you can add the other precursors, glutamine and glycine, plus minerals that are used as cofactors for the enzymes, mostly Mg. Glutathione acts as an antioxidant. NAC is also a powerful antioxidant, and thats one reason why some people feel better with it. The thing to do, for people who can't tolerate NAC, is to take lots of other antioxidants, like vit C, vit E, fresh fruits and vegetables. > Secondly, I came across several posts about the NAC causing some > symptoms such as runny noses and other stuff. NAC is a recommended supplement for people who are not having problems with sulfur foods. It is important for mercury poisoned people to understand that it is a source of cysteine and can be problematic. If it isn't problematic, then it is useful because of the powerful antioxidant ability. That's my understanding.
