Guest guest
Dyane, I'll tell you why they say that... they DON'T GET IT.. I have used the power chairs to shop since my fibromialgia days. When I go shopping and they have those wonderful carts I go up and down every isle.. don't wanna miss anything. IfI were using a cart I would make it inside the door.. Cart for me. Love and Prayers, Peggy IPF 2004, FloridaWorry looks around, Sorry looks back, Faith looks up. Joyce,I wonder why they would say that? I'm assuming because they want you to stay physically active as long as possible, strong muscels help you breath better but I don't have a choice. I need over 5lpm to stay above 90 and keep my hr below 150. I can't get the o2 people to give me more than a 5 pulse regulator and I drain the tanks too fast at that rate. So I use the carts and then I can turn the tanks down. I've never been to rehab because the damn insurance won't pay although I think I have a way to get it done. Gonna wait to see what NJH says. I'd much rather use a cart and have a life than not and stay home because its too much. Dyane Phoenix ipf 02>> I have a question about power chairs. Those of you who use them- how low does your O2 go with oxygen when you move? Do you need more liters per minute? I ask these questions because I asked both my physician and my pulmodude and the pulmodude at Jewish about using the electric chairs at places like Costco and super walmarts and the grocery store and they all said NO without hesitation. They told me to lean on the cart but don't use the electric cart. It seems like none of my doctors wanted me or wants me to use any kind of device that would make life easier because they say it is bad for the lungs. Guest guest
Dyane- I am at 4 lpm and when walking my o2 goes to 91-92 but NJH said my blood 02 is 5 points lower then what shows on the oxymeter. My heart rate is always high and I don't understand it. It is high even when my 02 is registering 96! I just don't understand that! But I understand how y ou would prefer the cart. I actually prefer the cart too but because my doc's say not to I don't. I am very tired when I come home! Joyce Rudy AZ Birds Re: Question about power chairs Joyce,I wonder why they would say that? Guest guest
I see your point, Bruce! I'll try that. Usually I go at my own pace and shop but there are times when I just need some tomato's and they are way back in costco and I have so little time. I'll tell you though, when I get home I am exhausted! The cart is so tempting but so far I have refused to use it but for things like you describe I can certainly see how it would be useful. Guest guest
HO HO HO Mama's getting mail!I used the scooters during our moving time and still do if my legs continue to hurt. I'm so so grateful that scooter is there! Otherwise I'd be sitting in the car.  I don't need any o2 when I use the scooter. I thought I "never could" use a scooter but I found I didn't care one frog's leap about what others thought. In fact, I raised some hell at two super-stores: Fred Meyers and Target.....all their electric carts were discharged and couldn't be used.I told mgrs. in both stores what possible good was a discharged cart to a disabled person...someone on each shift needs to check the carts regularly. I didn't know that when I'm finished with a cart I need to plug it into the battery for the next person. Apparently others don't know this either.Still can't find where to add signature.....different from Windows....  I see your point, Bruce! I'll try that. Guest guest
Dyane, Your understanding is the same as mine. We have absolutely no reserve O2 in our bodies so our heart rate does not necessarily react the same way to exercise and rest. My heart rate like yours, bounds up into the 120's and 130's if I try to do anything without oxygen or without enough oxygen. My heart is trying to compensate for my lungs. It's like a healthy person trying to exert themselves while holding their breath. Their heart rate would go up too! I will be very interested to see what happens in November during my first (after 7 years you think I would have had one of these) 6 minute walk. I walked up and down the hallway today at the doctors office while waiting for them to open using an e tank on 5lpm pulse and by the time I sat down (maybe 100 yds or so) I had dropped to 87 and my hr was up to 124. I walked up and down the hallway today at the doctors office while waiting for them to open using an e tank on 5lpm pulse and by the time I sat down (maybe 100 yds or so) I had dropped to 87 and my hr was up to 124. Everything stabalized but I could feel it. Get your excercise but if your body is telling you to sit then sit and ride. Just because a doctor tells me something doesn't mean its gospel. Only you can tell them how you feel. Its like the difference between a balance sheet and an income statement. A balance sheet is a snapshot in time, just like your test results..at that second they were so and so. But you are like an income statement which shows a whole month or year of data and many many times I tell my clients that the year to date stuff is more important than any one minute or month can be. You are going back to NJH this month right?Dyane Phoenix Ipf 02> >> > I have a question about power chairs.
