When all else fails, try Wikipedia. ;-)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgen

DHEA and testosterone are 2 androgens that I am taking. I take DHEA 5mg 2x per

day and testosterone 4 mg 2x per day. I have been taking this Rx, which also

includes cortisol, for the last year + and it really helps. DHEA is available

without an Rx; I think you need a script for testosterone. In any case, you

will need to test yourself first to see what you need. I had tests done through

my doctor; maybe Dean or others can suggest other ways.

He doesn't define androgens. I've looked in various places for a definition,

but all I can come

up with is that androgens are male sex hormones. That doesn't tell me

specifically what I

need or how much.

What are all the androgens? Specifics, please. Can someone name the individual

hormones

he's referring to?

Thanks.

Hi,

Actually, it was a 24-hour urine collection test. The doctor based the

prescription on that. So far, I am happy with the results. He does not suggest

retesting for at least 3-4 years.

The tests you had done through your doctor--were they saliva hormone tests or

blood

serum hormone tests?

I had blood serum hormone tests. An adrenal webgroup says saliva is the only

way to find

out what you really need to know about your hormone levels.

I'm so glad to hear this hormone supplementation is making you feel better.

Just like

Andy's book said! I really need to know: did you determine your hormone

replacement on

on the basis of below-range blood levels (as opposed to saliva)? If so, did you

feel that

info. was sufficient to decide on a good replacement dose?

Looks informative.. I found after trying progesterone,

estrogen, testosterone in herbal forms for years and with some

benefits when I started taking pregnenolone I had a complete

turn around.. I do not need any of the others now ..I am

about to get my levels rechecked. My DHEA was always

high.. but the others very low..

I do not feel the need for adrenal support. MY saliva test

came back low normal.. But I may experiment again with

licorice , ashwaghanda just to make sure.. These herbs helped

a wee bit , but then I would get sensitive to them within a

month or two of taking them.

I take 25 mg daily of the pregnenolone .... Feels great...Sure

wish some of the many health professionals had mentioned this in

the many years of my search.. no more mental, nervous

exhaustion !!!!... Nanciwell

--------In Dr. Lee's book, Hormone Balance Made Simple, on page 11 he

says, " Androgens are male hormones, including testosterone and androstenedione.

DHEA is often considered an androgen but converts readily to estrogen in many

women. "

So Dean is basically right, the most common ones that are tested and talked

about are testosterone and DHEA. And DHEA is a precursor to testosterone, so

increasing DHEA levels may help raise your testosterone levels.

And I would not recommend you supplementing any of these, without testing

first. You can do this by saliva testing through the Canary Club (Links

section) without a doctor, if your doctor won't do it. And this will also test

your progesterone levels, which many women can be low in too.

So Andy doesn't tell you what or how much you need, because it is something

that needs to be tested and dosed for the individual. And Andy also recommends

Dr. Lee's books, and even sells them at his website now, so I would

recommend you get at least one of his books and/or do some reading at his

website (Links section), and definitely do some testing, before you try any

supplementing in this area.--------Jackie

Hi ,

That would be DHEA and testosterone, as far as I'm aware.

Dosages from memory are 25-50mg DHEA for women (but many take less as they

can't tolerate more - too much gives breast tenderness), and 1-3mg

testosterone each day (but you should have this tested).

Dean
