I struggled on with a sling for DS1+2 then bought a Wilkinet for DS3

(still got it somewhere!) and it was wonderful. Hard to put on a

first, but the only one I used where my back was still OK.

Looks like the system is truncating the URL. You have to copy the second

line, click on the first and then paste the copied half into the address

bar.

Web seems broken today, neither your link nor the one about slingeasy

mentioned in an earlier post, worked. :(

I wanted to avoid a twin buggy when Eloisa was born (23 month gap) and started

out with Eloisa in the sling and Phoebe in the pram but I had to give up it was

to much hard work for me. I have a Baby Bjorn sling and I have never had a

backache from it (obviously very suitable for me ;o) ) but I just found it to

hard going with Eloisa in the sling and Phoebe in the pushchair (and a nappy bag

under it).. My friend gave me a twin buggy and it was the most wonderful thing

after having struggled on for 4 months.. Eloisa weighed around 15 lb at the

time I got the twin.. This time around we are getting a double no question..

However as Mari is older could you perhaps go for a Emma Junga with a toddler

seat? (not sure what their max weight is) or Silver Cross does some with a

toddler seat. The only other (and very good) option would be if you had friends

in USA who could get you a Sit and Stand stroller sent over. This works like a

tandem but has a seat at the front and instead of a seat at the back it has a

stand (like a buggy board) platform and a little sliding seat where toddler can

sit down if they want. (there is a harness built in so if Mari get's a little to

" wilful " you could strap her in).. Only one I know does anything similar in the

UK is Waki but they only do the pram with the build in buggy board no seat for

toddler..

I like Ruthies suggestion of getting a " proper " pram but they are difficult to

get a hold in..

anyhoo I hope this helped a little anyway ;o)

I've seen them out and about, but am not good at stopping people to ask

where they got something!

As an aside, when I went to look at your link, I was distracted by a small

boy asking to watch " Alan in Wonderland " (!) and thought the URL was

bfcdirect - I wondered what on earth you were sending us to look at :)

This was the stroller I was talking about to Jenni in my previous post ;o)..

Answer is no Joyce they are not supplied in the uk.. I am a very lucky person to

have family in America who bought us one that my MIL then bought over and it is

wonderful. Only thing is that as baby to begin with needs the entire seat to the

lie down position you can't have toddler sitting at the beginning. But at the

moment when ever I go down to town my sit and stand is the only thing I take

with me it is wonderful.. They have done a new model since the one shown here

where there also is a car seat along for baby (not much good here I know as

different rules re car seats but I just thought I would throw that in ;o) )..

Oh one more thing it is only supplied with a belt strap to hold in baby But it

is easy to attach a 5 point harness.. I believe some of the US sites will

deliver to the UK though so you could try emailing them and see if they would be

willing to and if so how much.. Also WAKI (www.waki.co.uk) does one with no

seat for toddler but it does have the build in buggy board..

I have a couple of slings that I am happy carrying my (now) 9ish kilo

baby (now 7mths) - I was using both with her from shortly after birth

(she was 8lb). Haven't pushed a pushchair with sling, but have managed

a trolley round various supermarkets and Ikea without problems (other

than those caused by the inconsideration of others.

They are an over the shoulder type (a Happybabysling) and the Tri Cotti.

Being in a similar position I'd say definitely go with above option. You

won't get much use out of a double buggy at Mari's age I wouldn't have

thought. I used a carrier for Alfie and pushchair for Verity for the first

few months. THE BEST BEST BEST front carrier is a BABY TREKKER. It's still

comfortable for hours with Alfie and it takes children up to about 3 years

on your back as well. It's also invaluable for round the house as you can

carry tiny babies on your back with it too.

I did loads of decorating when Alfie was tiny, and would often completely

forget he was on my back at all. It's easy to put on as well - vastly more

comfortable than the Baby Bjorn and very good value when you consider how

long you can use it.

Also, you can guarantee that Nia will be much happier snuggled up to you

than in a pushchair, so you won't end up carrying a fractious baby whilst

trying to push a double buggy with one hand!

Baby trekker is at :- http://first-born.co.uk/acatalog/index.html under

slings and backpacks.

My experience with a buggy board has been very poor (it came from Mat

Sales too) I found that if DS1 didn't want to walk, he probably

didn't want to stand either (especially not if it meant bashing his

head on the handle), and the walking position for me was duck-like

and backache inducing. So we've hardly used it and then the wheel

fell off! It's possible a narrower board would be better

Not sure I'd recommend a tandem with a 3 year old - we had one given

and DS2 had outgrown it flat before we got it when he was weeks old

but too young to sit up. It was quite useful later on the occasions

on which one of us needed to go out alone walking with them, but it

died on me one day half way somewhere. Two lumpkins in it was too much

We bought a cheap double pushchair (Little Tikes) and I am thrilled

to bits with it. We compared it with a double lightweight buggy and

it is much better for the same price. The only problem is that as it

won't go through our front door we have to set it up outside - not a

problem with DS1 and 2 but could be with a newborn (and not all that

cosy for a newborn either) Mine both love it - DS1 is not one of

life's keen walkers and he likes to recline in this one because he

can. It is quite snug round him, but it doesn't seem to bother him

I loved my over the shoulder slings when they were older but neither

of them liked them as tiny (inasmuch as they ever were) babies. So it

was Tomy front carrier and pushchair for us initially. Or better

still not having to take them both out single handed!

Same here, I love my double buggy, but it won't go through the front door.

It's a real pain and discourages me from going out for a walk from our house

because of setting everything up outside, but it is very useful for going

shopping and just fits in my car. Mine is the Atlanta Twin from Mothercare,

but I think it's changed since I bought it. When DS2 and 3 were tiny

newborns, I just carried them inside first and upstairs to their cots. It

isn't that cosy, but I just wrapped them up well. I think you'll have to go

and try some out Jenni, because Mari may well be too big. My eldest son

stopped going in any sort of pushchair at 2 1/2, DS2 is just 2 1/2 so he may

stop soon. It's just that her head may touch the hood.

Hannah

PS. I stored ours in the garage until I needed it again for DS3. It was too

big to go up to the loft or anywhere else, so I wrapped it very carefully.

But a mouse got in there and chewed a bit of padding on one of the seats and

I can't replace it as they don't do that fabric anymore. Still, it's only a

small bit and could have been much worse!

DS 1 and 2 are 19 months apart, but DH has an aversion to spending

money on baby gear so I went for the toddler in pushchair and baby in

sling. IMO the Tomy ones ate dreadful and do give you a sore back - I'm

a massive wilkinet fan and you should be able to use it for ages. (Also

go for the subtle hints about babies use prams etc, and she might be out

soon :-))

**** THANKS to everyone who replied on this one :) ****

Tried Mari in the pushchair with Nia in the Tomy carrier today and found

that combination ok but did get some backache from the Tomy carrier :(

Still kind of thinking about double buggies but have also realised that it

may be a nightmare having to be constantly on guard to stop Mari from doing

Nia some serious harm !! She's a darling but a bit heavy handed with babi.

Pretty much decided that I will get a Wilkinet after the rave reviews it

received here, considered slings but Gethyn said he wouldn't " be seen dead

wearing that! " - he found the Wilkinet acceptable !

Looked at the Waki pushchairs but no prices on their site - spoilsports - so

I'm going to get a board too and see how Mari and I get on with it :) She

was on the wrist strap today when out of the pushchair but the little madam

has figured out how to take it off ! told her it was that or the reins and

she put it back on sharpish but find it worrying that she is capable of

taking it off. Oh the stresses and strains of parent-hood ;)

Did my 'proud Mami' bit in the local shops today :) felt a bit of a fraud

though when telling them that Nia weighed 10lb 8oz at birth and they were

saying " oh but she looks so small! " couldn't be bothered with explaining

that she currently weighs 9lb 8oz.

Thanks again for an interesting buggy board/sling etc. discussion :)
