Guest guest
> I know..books...my undoing. > LOL...mine, too. But if ya gotta collect something, might as well be something that feeds your mind, huh? > I got 'The speed of Dark' and 'Thinking in Pictures' :-D > " Thinking in Pictures " is a really interesting book. She gets really into her animals. :-) I think the thing I liked best about this book is the way she describes having to set up tangible examples of symbolic concepts...way cool. > I'm leaving that one lying around hoping that Jacqui > picks it up. :-D > This is a strategy that Donna suggests for kids with autism...indirectly confrontational, I think she calls it. > I love books :-D >> Yup. Raena (who is waiting for books to arrive by mail, a phone call from the local bookstore about a book ordered a while back, and a book my sister found that she is sending...all while trying to finish a book borrowed from ' OT...eeks!) Guest guest
> I got 'The speed of Dark' and 'Thinking in Pictures' :-D > I'm halfway through The Speed of Dark. It's amazing. It has brought up some points about the NT world that just floor me - like we always teach our kids the conventional things to say - please, thank you, I'm sorry - and they always say them at the appropriate time, once learned...but do WE? Guest guest
> This is a strategy that Donna suggests for kids with > autism...indirectly confrontational, I think she calls it. It is a strategy that works VERY well with ERic. Lately with homework I just add the sheet to the pile on the dining table and remark, in passing, " there's homework on the table when you feel like it, " and then keep moving in the opposite direction. He's doing about one sheet a night now! :-) > Raena (who is waiting for books to arrive by mail, a phone call from > the local bookstore about a book ordered a while back, and a book my > sister found that she is sending...all while trying to finish a book > borrowed from ' OT...eeks!) Oh, do I hear ya. Went to the library this week and paid $30 in late fees. I had NO intention of picking up more books until I finished the speed of dark...but one book wouldn't hurt, right?...went home with a backpack FULL. <sigh> Jacquie
Guest guest
I wish we could have a book swap. I can't figure out any way that we could make it work though unless we could get non profit status and get free postage

Of course, that's when I actually have the opportunity to read. Penny :-D RE: I got two books today! Importance: High tell me how do you like them when you read them. Guest guest
I answered it. which means you deleted MY response. You KNOW how I feel about those things, Salli. ;-) Penny Re: I got two books today! > > ok, i gotta ask ... who is Tony Attwood? > Hey, isn't anyone gonna answer 's question. I mean I am two days late here! (maybe I deleted the answer?) Tony Attwood is probably the best know Asperger Syndrome expert. He has written a book called Asperger Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals, and has written a number of articles on it. I gather he is a good speaker and he does a fair amount of lecturing. Salli

Guest guest
> A murder mystery, Salli!!! What one? I love murder mysteries and am always looking for good ones I haven't yet read. > I am a big re-reader, Janae, so I am just reading an old Dick Francis (well, actually I am on to another one by now since I read much the way does (tested at 700 wpm when I was ten and getting faster ever since...), Flying Finish, I think. I love to start reading a favorite author knowing that I won't have to be hunting for a book for several days until I can finish all of them. I need something to read always. Guest guest
I carry a book with me where ever I go too. If I run out of new material, I revisit old, comfortable authors. The speed at which one reads the last five pages of a very exciting book is a lot different from the speed at which one reads a very boring book not of one's own choice.
