Guest guest
Joyce,I wonder why they would say that? I'm assuming because they want you to stay physically active as long as possible, strong muscels help you breath better but I don't have a choice. I need over 5lpm to stay above 90 and keep my hr below 150. I can't get the o2 people to give me more than a 5 pulse regulator and I drain the tanks too fast at that rate. So I use the carts and then I can turn the tanks down. I've never been to rehab because the damn insurance won't pay although I think I have a way to get it done. Gonna wait to see what NJH says. I'd much rather use a cart and have a life than not and stay home because its too much. Dyane Phoenix ipf 02>> I have a question about power chairs. Those of you who use them- how low does your O2 go with oxygen when you move? Do you need more liters per minute? I ask these questions because I asked both my physician and my pulmodude and the pulmodude at Jewish about using the electric chairs at places like Costco and super walmarts and the grocery store and they all said NO without hesitation. They told me to lean on the cart but don't use the electric cart. It seems like none of my doctors wanted me or wants me to use any kind of device that would make life easier because they say it is bad for the lungs. Guest guest
Joyce Rudy, I use whatever I need to get around those incredibly large stores. Why in the world would I want to waste my good energy on shopping when I could use it later for my grand children. Don't listen to the docs....they are not trying to live with PF...we are..do what makes your life easier and happier. I use the electric carts whenever I go food shopping! or Costco...or Walmart..or Target!! Mind you...I do walk on the treadmill at home...we have to stay active..but we can decide how! Guest guest
Joyce,From what I understand our heart rate shoots up because we have no reserve of 02 in our tissues and then stays up trying to get the most out of what we are getting through our lungs. I don't take carts everywhere, I walk to and from my doctors offices, etc, but if I continue to walk my sats drop below 90. I will be very interested to see what happens in November during my first (after 7 years you think I would have had one of these) 6 minute walk. I walked up and down the hallway today at the doctors office while waiting for them to open using an e tank on 5lpm pulse and by the time I sat down (maybe 100 yds or so) I had dropped to 87 and my hr was up to 124. Everything stabalized but I could feel it. Get your excercise but if your body is telling you to sit then sit and ride. Just because a doctor tells me something doesn't mean its gospel. Only you can tell them how you feel. Its like the difference between a balance sheet and an income statement. A balance sheet is a snapshot in time, just like your test results..at that second they were so and so. But you are like an income statement which shows a whole month or year of data and many many times I tell my clients that the year to date stuff is more important than any one minute or month can be. You are going back to NJH this month right?Dyane Phoenix Ipf 02> >> > I have a question about power chairs. Those of you who use them- how low does your O2 go with oxygen when you move? Guest guest
Joyce (s) Makes it easier when addressing both of you. I got one of the wire carts and use it for bringing groceries and other stuff in. Like you said, I will sometimes just take care of the items I must and get the others later. I often do that by going on and putting them in the bottom of the cart and then just leaving them there until later. > > > > I have a question about power chairs. Guest guest
When I was still able to get around I used the wire cart also. I used it for my laundry also, because I lived in an apartment and had to walk to laundry room. However, I must say that my son (then 5 yrs old) did most of the carrying and pushing and pulling. Guest guest
My rehab has a scholorship fund that pays for you if your insurance doesnt cover it and if you are low income. They will cover me until after the transplant. Miranda > > > > I have a question about power chairs. Those of you who use them- how low does your O2 go with oxygen when you move?
