Thanks for thinking of me today, Lydia. I hope your spirits are lifted in

the next few days. There is much to be thankful for. You are in beautiful

Italy in the shopping capitol of the world. I would love to be there (but when

it is warm).

Len: I also had my chemo infusion today. I was there at 9 a.m. and didn't

get home until 6:30 p.m. I have a port a cath that is used for all my blood

work and to administer the chemo. Why didn't they give you a port? It is so

easy and without pain. The port is used to draw blood to see if I can have

chemo, then for pre-meds (steroids, anti-nausea meds, etc.), then to infuse

Avastin, then a 2 hour infusion of Oxaliplatin and Leucovorin. Then, I am

hooked up to my 48 hour pump of 5FU. I go for Acupuncture immediately after my

chemo and then a cancer massage at my house. I am really trying to take care

of myself and the acupuncture helps. Is it too late to get a port? How

many treatments do you have remaining? I think you said 3 or so. I had chemo

number 9 of 12 today --- 3 to go!

I feel lousy and I am going off to sleep.

Take care.

Hi ,

I am not sure why they didn't give me a port. He said

I had good veins, which I did until the chemo, but now

all my veins in my left forearm are burned out. I

guess I look like a heroin junkie. I will call the

doctor and ask how many more of these infusions I have

left. Right now I'm only scheduled for two and the

nurses have been talking about diluting the

oxaliplatin to reduce the toxicity. We'll see what

they decide for next time. I am really sleepy right

now but my hands can type ok. I just can't keep my

eyes open. Good thing I'm a touch typist.

You take care and get some rest yourself. Don't

forget to push the water.

I would definitely, definitely, get the port.... I would not have been able to

do it any other way - many times they can not find my veins.. and over the

course of chemo there will be times you don't feel good - or may be

dehyrated....and then it is REALLY hard to find the veins... My husband didn't

want me to get the port - but I thought it best and didn't regret....I had it

taken out in August! YAY! It is now my little battle scar - might put a tattoo

on it (just kidding!)
