Guest guest
Hi everyone - I've been away for a while - holidays, 2 hard drive crashes (blasted Dell computer!) out of town visitors, and a trip to see the folks at Thoughtful House in Austin, TX. This is where Dr. Jepson/Krigsman/Wakefield practice. We are going to do their program/protocol to see if we're missing something biomedically. I did learn some interesting things and thought I would pass them on.... 1. Anytime our kids get sick enough to warrant an antibiotic, it is important to start a probiotic + an antifungal the day after you finish your last dose of medication. The antifungal part was news to me. I knew about the probiotic. Their reasoning is that the antibiotic wipes out everything, and the antifungal prevents an overgrowth of fungus. Yikes! 2. They work with a compounding pharmacy for multivitamins/minerals. In their words, chewables just don't give enough of what you need - plus they have fillers/sugars/colors that our kids just don't need. Another Yikes! My kids don't swallow pills so I've got my fingers crossed that the liquid will taste somewhat good. 3. Fish oil - they recommend Promax(?) Ultra pure fish oil - supposedly so delicious that they will suck the spoon clean!! They say this one is purest and has the best EPA/DHA ratios of all out there. *I need to check that name again - don't have a hard copy of recommendations yet* 4. Urine/stool tests for yeast/fungus/bacteria/parasites - treat as needed 5. After 3 months on new vitamins, check blood levels to see what they are absorbing and what needs tweaking. If all looks well, then pre and post challenge tests to check heavy metals. Pre - urine collection day before challenge. Post - urine collection after challenge (DMSA) to compare what is coming out. Determine if levels require chelation. 6. If chelation is needed, strict guidelines on blood/liver functions for duration of chelation. 7. Clean, organic diet, naturally. They want us CFGF (again!) for at least 6 months. Enzymes to support healthy gut. Don't know which ones yet. 8. Check immune system - supplement if needed to regulate 9. Neurotransmitters - not really clear on this one, but it is down on the list. I do remember him saying that a lot of kids are way off on seratonin levels. I wasn't really that surprised - I knew most of this stuff from my hundreds of hours reading and our earlier experiences. I did learn that the life span of a red blood cell is 3 months. So, if you are monitoring absorbtion, you would want to check blood after 3 months of taking supplements to see what your levels are. Just because you are taking x amount of x doesn't mean that your body is absorbing that much. You may need more or less. So, here we go again - the list taped inside the kitchen cabinet so I can make sure we took everything for the day. The watching and monitoring. I'm not looking for a miracle, but I do want truely healthy kids with clean, optimally functioning guts. Maybe the brain will work a little bit better as well? Take care ya'll and I'll keep you posted on brands and dosing. cheers and happy new year!! Stephanee
