A word of caution for any Mac users out there - Tesco online is not fully

operational for Macs, ordering shopping can be a tedious business because of

this, and you can't register on-line they have to do it for you over the

phone (of course no messages on the site explain this when you're screaming

at the screen!!).

I've only used Tesco and found it okay. The deliveries have always been

early though and I found that annoying but would have seemed petulant to

send them away.

Hmmmm substitutions, I ordered non-dairy desert for Mari (she's Vegan) and

it was substituted with a low-fat dairy ice cream! Some of the

substitutions are fine though and I check for substitutions whilst it's

being delivered and send back immediately the things I don't want. Finally,

seems to vary by area but with our store if you order on a Sunday night

there's a lot of stock missing, e.g. one order they didn't have feta,

mozzarella or halloumi cheeses!! and no suitable substitutions :( I haven't

ordered since as I ended up going shopping anyhow so felt the 5.00 delivery

charge was wasted.

I have a 5.00 voucher for Sainsbury's - may try them this week but then I

think Somerfield and Iceland have free delivery???

Our Somerfields offer home delivery but you still have to do your

shopping they just deliver it for you.

One of mine turned up early but only 1/2 hour early and his first

words were " I'm early if it is not convenient I will call back later "

In some households Ruthie, getting the wrong loo paper and paper

towels would indeed be regarded in the same light as non kosher beans

in yours :-)))) It is something that puts me off online grocery

shopping, even though I do a lot of other shopping online - Amazon,

Kids Stuff, Lush, holidays etc - like you, I want what I want and do

without otherwise.

I have done an Iceland shop, because I never get round to going there

(I quite enjoy going to big supermarkets and so do the boys but

Iceland doesn't count) - but I made silly mistakes I would never have

made in person - thinking cat food was a bargain when it was actually

a more expensive sort and came in smaller tins. And the other sort I

ordered turned out to be a Nestlé owned brand :-( You can't read

labels online.

I've also used the organic company that were in the NCT voucher book

several times.

I had been thinking though we'd have to give it a go for basics - at

the moment we are both going as our fortnightly shop needs two

trolleys. Trouble is that we have to go to both Tesco and Sainsbury

to get what we want, so that would be £10 a time (plus I have

encountered something of the fun and games over being a Mac user at

the Tesco site that Jenni mentions)

I think they ought to reduce the delivery charge if there are large

gaps in your order. And take note too. Mind you, I just grumble about

what I can't get when I go in person - we don't have premium

size/quality branches near us and stocking levels of what they do

carry are not good.

This is why i find it so frustrating - it often won't load the frames

part of the 'goods available' and I resorted to writing in the

shopping list section and then viewing items that way (can't

explain it very clearly) It does seem to work better if I use 'Virtual

PC' (a program that makes the Mac pretend it's a PC) and run

the internet (Internet Explorer) on that.

All very time consuming and frustrating!

Oh poo - saw a Somerfields Van today with 'free home delivery' on the side

and got excited!! - defeats the object if I've got to go there. At the

moment I can't physically walk the mile round trip to my nearest stores on

my own with Mari - it's just toooooooo much :( I hate, hate, hate being so

dependent on Gethyn and and resent paying 5.00 delivery charges ... but

not long to go now :)

Unless your store offers something different, we are a little out in

the sticks here! We have a Somerfields and Safeways and a even

smaller Co-op. I tend just to nip in the Somerfields (as it is

oposite my mums!) or call into the Co-op for my milk and bread. I

did venture into Safeways today for the 1st time in about 6 weeks,

only 1 checkout open a queue a mile long and when I finally got

served I noticed that a pizza I had got which I thought was on offer

had gone through at full price. So I queried it and was told I was

wrong and it was not on offer so I demanded a refund for it. Their

signs are hopeless and their attitude even worse.

As Tescos is a 30 mile round trip I feel that the £5 charge is OK, as

it would cost me more than that in petrol and time. But then again I

only do it once a month and the amount of huffing and puffing it

takes to get the stuff in the car and back out again, never mind at

least one fractious child (and possibly a mother) makes the £5 seem

reasonable.

Not long to go now, do you normal deliver early or late?

I was gutted to find our local Somerfields has closed whilst I've been

out of the country. It was never a major shopping place for me but was

the only store which stocked my fave marinated feta cheese and was next

to the gym I go to so I would pop in regularly for bits and bobs.

I feel this way about Next - their delivery charge is good value as it

would cost me more in parking and petrol and 'extras' that I didn't go

in for than their ?2.95.

And in the store you are never guaranteed they are going to have things

in different sizes to try on.

Now you're all going to tell me that Next have changed their system too,

aren't you? ;-)
