Guest guest
The Sigg company claims they use a liner which prevents leaching of aluminum and doesn't leach anything itself. But they will not give any information about what this liner is composed of, claiming it's a proprietary trade secret. That's a bunch of crap as far as I'm concerned. Why would I blindly trust them? I would want to know what it is and do my own research to see if I agree it is safe. You're best off with glass - you can buy one of those glass tea bottles and use it. Or you can buy juice in a plastic bottle made of number 2 recyclable plastic (HDPE, or high density polyethylene). I've never seen anything bad written about HDPE (and I've looked hard), and it never smells or seems to impart a taste to the water. Dean O/T What reusable water bottle is best? OK, this is off topic.... I have been using hard plastic Nalgene brand water bottles for almost a decade. I drink out of one constantly (at work, the gym, in the car, at night, etc). They are made from the Lexan brand of polycarbonate. Recently, I have noticed bad press about Lexan, along with REI (Outdoor Store) stating as of last April, they no longer will even carry water bottles made out of Lexan. This is because of BPA risk (which was shown to mess with the endocrine system: http://www.mysigg.com/images/assets/FitnessPlus_Mar06.pdf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisphenol_A Now I see Aluminum bottles (like SIGG brand) being promoted for drinking. They claim to have a liner and not leech anything into the water...but that's what I used to hear about plastic Nalgene bottles!!! What's the best solution here??? Do I continue with the plastic bottles in spite of what is now know about BPAs, or do I switch to Aluminum and hope they honestly don't put any metal into my water? Confused, Ed

Hulda advises its use. DeanSA

Guest guest
SA Dean and I both independently came to the same conclusion that the HDPE (#2) plastic bottles seemed good. We use them for our kids, and apparently even Hulda recommends them. Dean Re: O/T What reusable water bottle is best? --- So does anyone know of ANY safe bottles other than glass? Guest guest
We use Sigg, or glass (Pellegrino bottles).

It keeps fluids cold or hot, has glass touching the water, and usually has a handle. pegiot > Hi Peggy. Nothing wrong with them, as its glass. My original post was geared toward a lightweight bottle. Glass or heavy thermos aren't suited for that. It seems the overall consensus is to use the lightweight HDPE (#2) bottles. Ideally glass is the perfect choice, but its not very durable or light for on the go activities!
