I was having chemo all day today and I sat next to a financial planner.

She asked me whether I was receiving social security for myself and my 2

sons.

I told her " no " since I am not old enough for social security. She said I

was wrong. Since I worked for 20 years and paid into it and I now have

stage 4 colon cancer, I am apparently eligible to apply and receive it

retroactive

to the date of onset of my illness.

Does anyone have experience with this?

This sounds right, ....go for it!! Glenn's ex has been on

disability for years and son, too...he's over 18 now, so he doesn't get it

anymore.

She is able to work part time and still get the disability each month. Cancer

is considered a disability and you can even get a handicapped license plate

or card for your car window. All involves paperwork, but being an attorney,

you are use to that!!! LOL

Lots of hugs and prayers, Donelle

Hi Sue:

I called the general number today and was told that I would be eligible for

Social Security Disability. They haven't given me an appointment yet - they

are supposed to call from the local office in the next 3 days for an

appointment time. Anyway, I also learned that if I qualify (which I am sure

of) then

my 2 sons as my dependents also will get benefits up to $800 a month or so

(he wasn't exactly sure). I think I recall you have kids too, right? Did

they tell you all the things you need to bring with you to the appointment?

Birth certs, marriage certs, etc. I have to write away and get those which

will

delay this a bit. Let me know how your case goes.

Hi ,

I just called the Social Security Office yesterday and talked to a

representative who set up an appointment for me on December 6th. I

am also not old enough for social security but apparently there is a

social security disability program. One can also work and still be

eligible for the program so I will get all the info on Dec. 6th.

Sue and

Back when my husband briefly has SS disability I also got a bit of $$$, the

kids each got $60 a month. Times sure have changed since then. LOL

But it came in handy while it lasted. Then of course they took it away they

said because he was already on VA disability, heaven forbid he should be a

double dipper. Always wondered why one shoe was allowed to do it but the

other wasn't. I think they are allowed to draw both now but used to grit my

teeth when I would hear how some person was getting over by drawing both.

These ladies who couldn't sit at their office desk and work, but could go

play bingo and sit in bingo hall all day. Arrghhh.. I didn't even try to

get it, didn't want to mess up anything am already drawing survivor benefit

SS, and next year will retire at 65 and some and get a bit more than I do

now.

Anyway If you gals can get it, you do it.. Every penny helps out these days.

I maybe should have took it for as long as I was on chemo but decided not

too.

Good luck to you all Jolene

When I had my surgery and was out of work i lost my insurance by not

working full -time. I am now on social security disability, (629.00 per

month)I can work and makeup to 600.00 a month, but I am also on

medicaid since I lost Insurance, and if I work and make over 70.00 a

month, I lose the medicaid. So I'm debating going back to work if I get

clear tests back. But also afraid, that as soon as I do, the old C will

rear its ugly head. Sooooooooo????

Hi ,

I was told to bring my birth certificate and I will be receiving some

paperwork that needs to be filled out prior to my appointment. I

have a son but he is over the age of 18 so I won't be able to include

him.
